I was invited to take part in a private member day at Putnam Park where I could shake-down my Seven for the first time on a race track almost completely by myself. Overall I was very pleased with how the car behaved at speed. Here is my fastest lap from the 4 sessions I ran in the car, a 1:13.05, about 5 seconds per lap faster than my best lap on the same tire in my Civic! Even still, there is clearly lots of room for improvement in my driving as I build confidence and familiarity in the car, as well as dialing-in the suspension setup.
The car is a scratch-built clone of a Lotus Seven, powered by a S4 13b from a 2nd gen Mazda RX7, J-ported with a custom 3" exhaust, Star Mazda intake manifold, Weber 48 DCOE carb, and direct fire ignition system. It uses RX7 spindles, brakes, transmission, axles, and a 4.10 open Miata differential. The car weighs 1,311 lbs without driver and approx 1/2 tank of fuel. I have yet to dyno it but it should make around 230-250 whp. I was running on 225/45-15 BFG R1S tires, Penske 4500 single adjustable dampers, and Hawk HP-Plus brake pads.
