I was diagnosed with Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia ("CML") during the fall of my sophomore year at Middlebury College (2001) After several blood transfusions and bone marrow biopsies, I was transported to Johns Hopkins where I became part of a trial group for Gleevec -- a then-recently approved oral chemotherapy drug.
My body responded tremendously well to this super-drug which eventually afforded me the opportunity to return to school as well as the playing field. I have taken Gleevec for over 10 years now and it has allowed me to sustain a relatively normal lifestyle.
However, I am extremely compelled to help those that have not had the same type of response to their treatment. After 10 years, I now realize that I have been blessed with the opportunity to tell my story.
It is my intent to help provide that opportunity to others.
