Can you build explosive strength over the age of 40? Absolutely!
You have to be careful, though. Your chances of injury go up with age and you have to pay even more attention to your form and technique.
Follow along with me as your muscle-building coach, as I take you through this Dynamic Effort Squat workout. Inspired by the old-school Westside Barbell strength training methods, you will be able to build strength, power, and work on your proper form at the same time. If you're over 40, including some Dynamic Effort into your existing strength training routine is a great idea.
Even though you will be using sub-maximal weights, you will be moving the weights fast and explosively. If you've never tried this style of strength training before, it will introduce a new stimulus to your body, which will help you break past your plateaus and sticking points.
- Box Squats (Explosive/Power Exercise)
- Squat Lockouts (Overload Exercise)
- Leg Extensions (Isolation Exercise)
- Lying Hamstring Curls (Isolation Exercise)
- Decline Bench Sit-ups (Core Exercise)
- Back Hyperextensions (Posterior Chain Exercise)
