A mere glance at the regular matrimonial advertisements in newspapers’ classifieds and online websites reveals it all.This obsession with fair skin doesn’t seem to be fading any time soon. It is so far ingrained in our society that it has now become a subconscious part of our psyche.
Here's an award winning short film that portrays the agony of a woman who's been rejected based on the color of her skin.
"Shuruaat" the HumaraMovie & PVR Director's Rare short film festival was mentored by Imtiaz Ali, Vikas Bahl, Anand Gandhi & Vikramaditya Motwane. From an initial submission of over 400, the final 8 films, made on the theme of "Interval" will be released through PVR Director's Rare from the 15th of August, 2014. Humaramovie organised the short film competition at the Wassup Andheri Festival in March 2012. 12 shortlisted candidates (out of close to a 100) made their films under the mentorship of Anurag Kashyap & Imtiaz Ali. There were 6 each in the two teams culminating in a thrilling competition. Imtiaz judged movies under Anurag's mentorship, while Anurag did the same for Imtiaz's movies. The audience decided on the final 2 movies and chose the winner.
5000 people in the audience watched the movie and decided the winner- the greatest award of all.
