In the spring of 2013, five farmers from across the United States, including Maryland, Oregon, Illinois and Iowa, visited Hawaii as part of the inaugural "Views From the Farm" essay contest to share their perspectives on modern day farming. The visit was sponsored by the Hawaii Farm Bureau Federation and the Hawaii Crop Improvement Association.
