We dream of an Ecuador where everybody has the same possibilities of a transformative, liberating, inclusive and quality education for life; with a restored political presence in the new frontiers of exclusion.
Vision of Fe y Alegría Ecuador
Fe y Alegria is an International Movement of holistic Popular Education, founded in Venezuela by Jesuit priest, Jose Maria Vélaz in 1955. The movement is present in 26 countries and on 3 continents: America, Europe and Africa. All of these form the International Federation of “Fe y Alegria” with more than 1.5 million beneficiaries as part of the apostolic work of the Society of Jesus.
Fe y Alegria Ecuador, founded in 1964, offers formal and informal education: primary education, general education and high school diplomas. This is supplemented by special and inclusive education, exceptional high school diploma and education for work for both youth and adults. We administer student housing, “mobile schools and houses of education and recreation.”
We are divided into three regions and administrative zones. We teach girls and boys, adolescents, youth and adults in 74 educational centers. These are present in the 14 provinces on the coast, mountains and jungles, with aproximately 30 000 students, we have almost 1500 educators, 91 administrators and 94 service and maintenance staff.
We are strategically connected to public and private institutions in order to achieve diverse educational projects that contribute to the improvement of educational infrastructure. This guaranties quality education based on the belief of our founder, that “Fe y Alegria” cannot be poor education for the poor.”
The collaboration of institutions and personnel was fundamental throughout our history. The experience continues to teach us, that alone it is difficult to walk, but together we will continue transforming many more contexts and create opportunities for thousands of families.
