Growing up as a young woman in Afghanistan, Roya Mahboob didn’t have a lot of options. But, she knew she wanted something more. Roya built a career in the tech industry, eventually becoming one of Afghanistan’s first female tech CEOs. But her ambition drew unwanted attention. Roya and her female employees have been subject to stalking, harassment, and even death threats from the Taliban. Fearing for her safety she has moved to New York. But she’s far from finished. Roya has started the Digital Citizen Fund to teach young girls in the Middle East digital literacy. Her hope is that through the program, girls will be empowered to realize their full potential.
Roya’s story deserves to be told. Share this video.
