eTwinning is a free and secure online community, where teachers can find partners from more than 40 countries to work on projects, exchange best practice and enable pupil collaboration.
eTwinning is part of the Erasmus+ programme for schools.
Both programmes support staff professional development and help to improve pupils’ self-confidence, cultural awareness and motivation for learning.
//REGISTER - ETWINNING LIVE//
It's easy to get started with eTwinning, once you have registered; you will get access to eTwinning Live, where you can search for and join existing projects, or share your own ideas for projects that others can join.
//START A PROJECT- TWINSPACE//
Once you have joined or started a project, you will access a secure online space, called the TwinSpace, where you can invite your pupils to upload and share their project work with other pupils from your partner school.
Projects are intended to support your existing curriculum as well as providing a real life international audience for pupils to work with. You and your partner choose how long your project runs for so it fits with your timetable.
The TwinSpace has tools which make it easy to collaborate, communicate and share ideas with your partner school, such as video conferencing, chat rooms and blogs to support your project. You can also integrate and include other web tools that you already use into your TwinSpace. All of your work is private unless you choose to share and publish it.
There are lots of ways you and your school can gain accreditation by running eTwinning projects, such as:
When you have completed your project you can apply for a Quality Label to recognise the success of your project - which can lead to special awards in the UK and Europe-wide.
After you and your colleagues in school have been involved in eTwinning for two years your whole school can be accredited as an eTwinning School recognising the impact that eTwinning has had.
//PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT - FACE TO FACE//
eTwinning offers a range of free professional development workshops and training courses. Face to face workshops are held in different countries over the course of a few days and give you the opportunity to meet new partners in person and time to work together to plan your project.
//PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT - ONLINE//
Online courses range from one session to a full course lasting up to four weeks.
eTwinning can be a stepping stone towards Erasmus+ funded projects, giving teachers and pupils the opportunity to visit partner schools and for staff to train or teach abroad. You can use eTwinning to save, share and support your Erasmus+ project work.
There are a number of key funding streams which you can tap into:
//KEY ACTION 1//
Through Erasmus+ Key Action 1, school staff can teach, train or job shadow abroad at a partner school.
//KEY ACTION 2 – SCHOOL EXCHANGE PARTNERSHIPS//
Through Erasmus+ Key Action 2 School Exchange Partnerships, your school can apply annually for funding for pupils to visit your eTwinning partner school. Staff can gain new ideas and develop professionally, through teaching and training abroad.
//KEY ACTION 2 – SCHOOL EDUCATION PARTNERSHIPS//
Through Erasmus+ Key Action 2 School Education Partnerships, your school can apply annually for funding to test and implement innovative practices for pupils, staff and organisations, to enhance the curriculum and support education policy priorities.
