At 15 Cole discovered that the Tiger Woods golf cards being talked about on tv shows like this one below (VIDEO 1), and being sold on ebay for $1000's, was NOT his Rookie Card. He realized he had an earlier card of Tiger that was in a Sports Illustrated 4 Kids Magazine on a tear out sheet of cards. THIS was his Rookie Card! He got his Dad to take him around card shops around Southern California, buying up the old 1996 issue of the magazine that held this secret card.
Two of the cards ended up being GEM MINT GRADED 10 out of 10 (meaning perfect condition) and sold them to the Sotheby'y/Christie's of Sports Card Memorabilia - Robert Edwards Auction House of New York.
Went through a lot in this venture including battles with Tiger Woods attorneys to give up tigerwoods.net to him and stop promoting the cards, but in the end it was worth it because a private buyer bought the cards from Cole for $240,000.
ESPN put Cole on Outside the Lines to share the story of the record breaking card sale...(VIDEO 2 & 3)
