From the magnificent "Rudolfinum" theater in Prague, the Prague City Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by maestro Leoš Svárovský plays "Watercolors of Ireland" by composer Alejandro Román. This symphonic suite, whose themes were written from the reading of a film script, is dedicated to the Mallorcan filmmaker Toni Bestard. Seven evocative pieces whose sonorous brushstrokes remind us of the wonderful Irish landscapes. These are the titles of each one of the watercolors:
I. "Sunrise in Wicklow" - 0:34
II. "Children of Belfast" - 1:22
III. "Fishing in Easky" - 2:27
IV. "The Tower of Killala" - 3:40
V. "Downpatrick Head from the Cliffs" - 4:36
VI. "Rain in Dublin" - 5:51
VII. "Suantree" - 6:24
The first, "Sunrise in Wicklow", opens the suite as a description of a sunrise in the county of Wicklow, also called "the Garden of Ireland" for its great natural wealth. "Children of Belfast" continues with images of the great capital of Northern Ireland, its green corners, the mouth of its river, or the great University of Queen's. The next piece, "Fishing in Easky", portrays this locality on the bank of a river whose meaning in Irish is "rich in fish". Killala is a coastal town in northern Ireland known for its many fortresses, whose "Killala Tower" is one of the most visited. The piece "Downpatrick Head from the Cliffs" shows the promontory that rises from the sea between the town of Ballycastle and the archaeological site of Ceide Fields, where St. Patrick founded a church whose ruins still remain standing. "Rain in Dublin", is a watercolor of the capital of Ireland located on the east coast of the island where it is very common to rain during all months of the year. Finally the work closes with "Suantree", a traditional Irish lullaby with a special traditional air.
The work was recorded on October 31, 2010 with the Philharmonic Orchestra of the City of Prague conducted by Leoš Svárovský and premiered in concert on April 3, 2014 at the National Auditorium in Madrid by the Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Pascual Osa.
