Get involved in Glasgow City of Science - a pioneering partnership of more than 90 organisations that aims to ensure everybody in the West of Scotland benefits from our world-class science and technology.

Glasgow, with the West of Scotland, is a hotbed of innovation, as befitting a city region with a history of scientific advance including penicillin, the ultrasound scanner, radiation therapy, criminal fingerprinting, pioneering antiseptic surgery, the first insulin pen, the steam condensing engine, HPV vaccine, typhoid fever vaccine, the electricity-generating wind turbine, the MRI scanner, and much, much more.

    Background information
Developed through the European PLACES movement, Glasgow City of Science is a pioneering initiative of over 75 multi-disciplinary organisations with a joint vision to “work smarter, in partnership, to raise the profile of Glasgow and the West of Scotland as a world-class European science destination and leverage science and technology to boost sustainable economic development and quality of life for our citizens.” We have teamed with our partners at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS) to produce a stunning short promotional film. This City of Science film brief constituted a major assignment for RCS post-graduates.

With a dramatic accompanying soundtrack, the film opens with a punchy reminder of Glasgow’s scientific contributions to the modern world. Shot on location around the city, the film then highlights City of Science partner organisations that are leading on the progression of developing industries. It uses dynamic short statements to illustrate the importance of science, engineering and the creative industries in driving forward innovation. The promo concludes with a strong call to action to “get involved” in the initiative. Show less
