A piano-improvisation on the main theme from the "Ballad for Violin and Orchestra" (1880) by the Romanian composer Ciprian Porumbescu (1853-1883). Porumbescu was a student in Vienna of i.e. Anton Bruckner. The Romanian classical tradition has always been dominated by George Enescu, while Porumbescu stood in his shadow.. However, his Ballad has become a very populair classical work, and not only in Romania. Porumbescu is also responsible for the music/melody which is used for the national anthem of Albania. Sadly, Ciprian Porumbescu died in 1883 at the age of only 29.
