This Christmas, help the ATA bring clean, renewable lighting to remote East Timorese communities by visiting to give the Gift of Light.

East Timor is one of the poorest countries in our region. Thirty percent of households (about 60,000 homes) have no access to the national electricity grid. About half of those depend on kerosene and candles for lighting, the price of which is a burden on families’ limited income, meaning many have no light source after dark. Energy poverty generates ill-health and environmental degradation, limits economic growth, and contributes to poor education and gender inequities.

Since 2003, ATA volunteers and local partners have been training local solar technicians and installing small, inexpensive solar power systems that provide lighting and USB charging for off-grid households as well as standalone solar systems for community centres, orphanages, schools and hospitals.
