FairWater Foundation promotes the development of more durable handpumps, like the Afripump, which is now the first handpump that can be maintained without the need for spare parts and can be used up to 100 m deep.

On this page you find also a video on how to install an Afipump at 75 m deep. Although the water level is very deep, people and even children can still pump water.

This reliable and spare part free technology is a major breaktrough in handpump design; before handpumps had a reputation of being fragile with repeated breakdowns, while spares were not available. Therefore, handpumps were often abandonned after some years without contineous external support.

Fairwater uses the Afripump, especially to replace broken down handpumps in schools and for communities.
