For 50 years ABCD has provided basic services and innovative programs that help empower individuals, families, and communities in Boston to overcome poverty, live with dignity, and achieve their full potential.
ABCD WorkSMART is a support program encouraging inner-city teens to balance completing high school while gaining work experience in their desired field of study or professional industry. The ABCD program collaborates with Boston Public Schools to help build and maintain a team of school and community members who are dedicated to providing effective year-round working and internship opportunities to disadvantaged youth.
ABCD's Energy Department offers a variety of programs to help households pay heating bills, and access weatherization measures and effective and cost- efficient heating systems. Additionally, ABCD works with utility companies, local businesses, and residents to offer green energy services and education. These partnerships ensure that low-income residents have access to the information and services they need to keep energy costs low and help the environment.
The network of ABCD Neighborhood Sites also offer a variety of energy, heating, and utility assistance programs to meet the needs of their communities throughout Boston.
ABCD's Financial Futures Initiative helps low-income households permanently escape poverty by building assets through home ownership, savings, higher education and entrepreneurship.
ABCD's Financial Futures Initiative has also developed an agency-wide approach to Financial Literacy Education for consumers of ABCD services. The program will include the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) tax assistance program, and access to credit counseling and other specialized programs.
