At Western Michigan University, we see a tremendous opportunity to create a transformative, system structure change by re-imagining formal education and using it to build a culture of sustainability.
We believe climate leadership is about greenhouse gas reduction, fiscal responsibility and thoughtful administrators who model their sustainability commitments. It's about cultivating community engagement, behavior change research, water conservation, and green building. It's about students who have the vision to create a Sustainability Fee, engaged faculty, and integrating sustainability into our first year curriculum.
The Detroit Free Press recognized WMU as a 2013 Michigan Green Leader. These collective efforts to build a culture of sustainability have begun to inform everything we do; it’s becoming second nature.
