Video Volunteers (VV) empowers marginalised people in India to tell their stories and create local change campaigns, so that their issues don’t get swept under the rug and instead become an important feature of India’s development narrative.
The media does not, yet, show us the real India. So over the past 7 years we have been growing a news network called 'IndiaUnheard' - a team of now over 200 VV Community Correspondents (CCs) who are posted across rural India. These are largely community activists who we train-up to become video reporters who then harness the power of the lens to shoot injustice at sight.
We empower them with the tools and strategies to expose social issues which will otherwise never reach mainstream media platforms, or even be addressed within their communities. Some of the many issues covered include patriarchy, gender and women's rights, corruption and govt accountability, caste discrimination and Dalit rights, education rights, indigenous people and land disputes, environmental rights, and much more.
VV not only produces news to digest, but invites you to change the ending of the story! Where possible, our CCs' videos offer urban Indian audiences a chance to TAKE ACTION by providing contact details of authorities involved.
Through the combined efforts of our audiences and CCs, VV has managed to transform over 1000 stories into IMPACT video reports.
Help us to amplify the voices of India's poorest communities and achieve more impacts. Watch, like, share, take action!
