A solar system generator and map system I have been working on recently for my overhaul of the original 4x project I had going on quite some time ago, like the original project this is also utilising Unity3D.
Systems consists of 2-6 planetary bodies, ranging from micro bodies to gas giants, and will be used in the final game as a fully fledged map and later game expansion screen as you begin to establish outposts on other planets... and eventually other solar systems.
The 'i' icon is the first piece of what will be a radial menu that activates when something is actively selected, when clicked it will move the camera to a more frontal view of the planet and display planet information such as size, resources, type of planet, landmass % and so forth.
The slightly weird behaviour with planets jerking around when zoomed in close is due to the planets colliders currently being scaled higher than the planet mesh themselves to make it easier for them to be highlighted and selected when zoomed out. In the future the collider will scale relative to the cameras distance 'height' distance from the object to stop this from happening.
Clarification: The times when the planets vanish and new ones appears are not video edits pieced together, I am just pressing the 'G' button on my keyboard at those times to generate a new system. All the footage was taken in one go with no editing done.
