The Kansas City Steelers Fan Club formed in 1993 out of the collective frustration of local fans tired of being denied access to Black and Gold broadcasts based on the regional biases of Kansas City television networks. The original core members came together in a marriage of convenience to pool their resources and forged a deal with the owner of Scallops, the official birthplace of the fan club, to guarantee access to games and space for members to congregate and cheer passionately. The scope of the fan club's goals have expanded to community outreach, raffles, charitable contributions, and even off-season gatherings. Membership has swelled with over 200 formal members and another 150 who attend games more casually. Over the years the fan club has moved from place to place, settling at Callahan's Bar and Grill in Lenexa, Kansas.
