Back in 2007 Sing Up launched the Hearts and Minds programme. These short term community wide projects were delivered by organisations who we knew had a strong track record in singing project delivery. Singers and Music specialists worked directly with children within and outside of primary school settings (including SEN), engaging them in exciting group based singing activities, whilst also providing invaluable training and inspiration for class teachers, teaching assistants, playground supervisors and parents.
Over 36,000 children benefited from the programme and all projects reported that the children had improved in their musicality, sense of achievement, social interaction and concentration. One of the many legacies from these 18 pilot projects was the development of the hugely successful Sing Up Flagship and Community programmes.
