SAVE THE SCOTTISH WILDCAT, SIGN OUR PETITION http://www.tinyurl.com/save...
We have found at least 13 Scottish wildcats in Clashindarroch Forest, Aberdeenshire; one third of the estimated total population.
They live alongside other rare creatures like pine marten, red squirrel, hen harrier, black grouse and goshawk.
The land is publicly owned, but managed by Forestry Commission Scotland (FCS) who are clear-felling large areas for paper products and wind farm installations.
FCS are logging areas known to be part of wildcat territories, during breeding and kitten season. This could disturb mating or lead to wildcats abandoning or killing kittens.
FCS experts say that the territorial cats “can move” and might raise a “significant issue” for planned wind farm installations, while discussing things to tell journalists so as to fend off bad press.
If we lose this population of Scottish wildcats, the largest known to exist, it could mean extinction.
Clashindarroch belongs to the wildlife, but is owned by the people. You can help us ask the Scottish Government to protect this unique place from any further development or commercial exploitation by signing the petition:http://www.tinyurl.com/save...
