Sage Gardeners was founded in 2010 by master gardener Jonquil Nelson. Raised on an Indiana farm and a granddaughter to a man that lived for tilling the spring earth and salting his sun-kissed tomatoes, she realized that she needed to give gardens back to the many seniors that once put their hands through the soil. Many wonderful organizations focus on farm to school and farm to table, but we couldn't find one in Montana that focuses on reconnecting seniors to their gardening roots. Sage Gardeners provides accessible, raised organic vegetable gardens to seniors in skilled and retirement communities, veteran, cancer and memory care communities, affordable housing units, and private residence. Our goals are simple: provide a gardening opportunity to improve quality of life. Some benefits include improvements in memory, physical exercise, mental stimulation, and socialization.
