From two sisters recalling 70 year old memories of making an old record for their parents for Christmas back in 1947 to a heart melting love song from one man to his wife for their 60th wedding anniversary...
Such were the beautiful memories uncovered when we challenged some of the older people we work with to pick their favourite song to record in the studio for a special album of 'Songs for Sharing' to mark the end of a special 3 year 'Keep Singing, Keepsake' project funded by Lloyds Bank Foundation, Arts Council England and the Big Lottery Fund with further support from Dunhill Medical Trust.
Plymouth Music Zone's 'Songs for Sharing' recording project invited some of the older people we work with to record their favourite songs for the first time ever in the recording studio at PMZ or on site in their residential homes - with the added enticement of fish and chips!
There were group recordings as well as a number of solo songs each with a unique story attached. This film is was made as an accompaniment to the album of songs they chose as a commemorative CD and DVD for the participants to share with family and friends.
The Songs for Sharing recording project was a culmination of the so called 'Keep Singing Keepsake' project that brings the joy of music through weekly singing sessions and audio and video recordings to residential homes and dementia care units across Plymouth.
Filmed for Plymouth Music Zone by Steve Becket from BeFreeMedia.
