http://www.hivresearch.org. COL Nelson Michael, Director of MHRP, describes the importance of the U.S. military's role in fighting global infectious diseases such as HIV, Malaria and TB. The military's work not only helps to protect the global community, but protects both U.S. Soldiers and allied forces while securing national defense.
The Thai Phase III HIV vaccine clinical trial, also known as RV144 and sponsored by the U.S. Army, demonstrated that the HIV vaccine regimen was safe and modestly effective in preventing HIV infection.
MHRP's dedicated researchers, support staff and partners are working to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS around the world. The program's success is achieved through collaboration with U.S. and international agencies, along with a network of international laboratories in Africa and Asia.
