We need to come together and build a positive youth identity. Many young Muslims and young people from other minority groups are victims of online and offline racial, Islamophobic and xenophobic hate.
Pick up the newspaper and something negative is printed about Muslims or minority groups. Look at the world and there is a constant battle of Muslims being painted as violent barbaric people. In the midst of all the anti-Muslim hysteria, there are young people growing up where more than ever they are challenged by ideas of identity and nationalism.
Islamophobia and hate speech is everywhere and it's taking away the voice of young marginalised people. We want to bring that voice back through our organisation Jawaab. We want to build a young movement who are comfortable in shaping their identity and speaking out against injustice and inequality.
