Helping nonprofits save money by saving energy is the mission of EnerChange. A Minnesota non profit itself, EnerChange works with other non-profits throughout the Minneapolis metro area to help them find energy saving opportunities for their facility. An energy efficient nonprofit often spends less on energy and has more money available for programs.
I seriously doubt that the cost of utilities is going to be going down in the near future. We know we're supposed to do something about reducing energy, but the options are so wide. Since donations are down, they need to figure out ways to cut costs. Donors care that their money is used responsibly, and that the money they give to an agency is being used smart, and helping the agency be sustainable.
Our mission is very simple, It's to transform information into action. What we do is we start with two years of your invoicing for electricity and natural gas, we take and we create a two year history so that we can take a look at the use patterns to that point. And basically what we can almost every time guarantee is; we will save you money moving forward. We walk the building together with a professional engineer and we talk about what we're seeing in the building from a completely objective perspective. We don't sell anything. But what we do that's really valuable is we rank order them. So the things that are going to pay back instantly, and in less than two years, we move to the very top of the list. Lighting conversions, improved boilers, water heaters... things like that. There's lots of things, improved insulation, in some cases improved windows, that sort of thing, doors, weather seals, and all sorts of things like that. From month one, they've implemented a project, they're actually generating more savings than they're paying for that project to be implemented, which really puts more money into their programs.
Now I like to tell each of our clients that this will be the most hassle free process they've ever gone through. Enerchange worked with a contractor, identified a scope, cost, savings, and then provided The United Way Headquarters financing to get that project implemented, which would have taken forever for them because they just wouldn't have had it in their budget.
We work with some very, very smart people. The engineers that we bring on the site are very talented and extremely well rounded. It is so satisfying to go through an organization, even an organization that has done really good work towards energy efficiency, we still find additional opportunities to save money. And every dollar we save is a dollar that doesn't have to be raised in fundraising.
This program is unique for non-profits because it is a no cost offer for the non-profits. If you're a non-profit in the metropolitan circle, if Xcel or CenterPoint is providing you your energy, Enerchange can help you. I can't imagine why anyone would not enter into this. We're a turn-key operation. Absolutely no cost to our clients. Any organization, any non-profit that wants to help their own bottom line and try to put funds back into the programs by saving energy and reducing their electric and gas bills, should really reach out to Enerchange and take advantage of this extra-ordinary opportunity to receive services at no cost to them. That's going to make a difference.
