Donner Sang Compter (DSC) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization that links volunteer donors to patients in need of blood since 2010 (MOIM Registry 865). Through our fun, creative and social approach we were able to recruit more than 15,000 blood donors, and more than 250 committed volunteers that help us through our daily operations. In the past 5 years DSC was able to save more 50,000 lives, and we know that we can achieve much more through our Mobile Blood Bank project.
What We Need
In late 2014, we received a Mobile Blood Bank as a donation from the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service, which is a 12-meter-long bus that has 4 blood donation chairs, a pre- and post- donation space and a small laboratory. This unit can circulate all over the country, regardless of all weather conditions, and reaching out far and wide to even the most rural of villages where people can first become aware of the cause, and then voluntarily donate their blood to people in need.
However, the donated bus has been since 2002, and needs a lot of rehabilitation from the inside before it can start operating again: Registration, new donation chairs, new equipment, maintenance, electricity, lighting, floor pan replacement,, etc...
So we are reaching out to you, our dear family, wherever you are, to raise 30,000 USD and be able to restore this mobile bank back to shape.
The blood donation system Lebanon has always relied on "replacement donation", in a way that all hospitals keep their blood stock at a minimum, and place the stress on the patients' families to provide blood units for their loved ones and even reaching out to strangers...
DSC thrives to change this "replacement donation" system through the blood drives or mobile blood donation campaigns, where around the year, we transport all needed equipment for blood donation throughout the country and encourage people to donate voluntarily - without knowing who are the patients that will benefit from their generous acts.
So, what about having enough blood at all hospitals at all times, and people not having to worry about provide their own blood units? This can only be achieved by increasing the Blood drives, on a daily basis, and fully supplying the hospitals' blood banks with blood units on a regular basis.
Other Ways You Can Help
In our country, people got used to "accepting" the bitter reality by adapting to it instead of making a change. DSC has always believed that a change is always possible, and this project is a big opportunity, if not the only one, to change the whole system of blood donation in Lebanon.
Whether you know us, have worked with us, have received blood from our generous donors for yourself or you loved ones, have donated with us, or have just heard about us on this campaign, this time, we count on YOUR support by donating money and spreading the word about this new concept.
In other words, be part of this Change!
If you can’t support us with money, share this movement on Facebook, Twitter, or meet us in our next blood drive near you.
All Lebanon needs is a little love, a little blood... Let's do this!
