I think it is interesting how mobile phones were invented early in the 20th Century but they did not come around for a lot later.
It shows the social impact of technology. I wonder if we can draw any connections with modern innovations?
I think when it comes to Eli Pariser, he may have a point about the future of social media, or the future of search. Although it is a long way out. However, when it comes to advertising, we need to make it a better experience for the user. If the user sits down and is shown ads that are so far away from their interests then what does that achieve? It just burns the advertisiers money!
Pariser's fear, is that we will enter a KNOWLEDGE filter bubble, I don't think that fear is relevant to ads.
