A great day - with 86 yr old Hank Makkreel tuning our 120 year old piano in our 160 year old home! Now this is a good days work!
This was performed in a Little White Church - so fitting - apologies for the shaky cell phone overhead video - taken early on a Sunday Morning - lol
This is a poem anchored to an old traditional tune Pete Seeger recorded as Pretty Polly. There are precious few songs written or recorded about the War of 1812 - Battle of New Orleans is one of the all time favorites - the Brock Song might be one day - too.
This medley was conceived on a trip to Lund BC this summer and tested at a restaurant called The Laughing Oystyer - it is now part of the repertoire.
Arranged by The Twenty Valley Boys,
Wilson (Bill) Salter, banjo and vocals, Doug George, Guitar and vocals, Tom Salter, guitar and vocals.
This is a favorite of ours that we have been singing since our teenage years. Had no idea it was from the Civil War era!
Thank you Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger and all who have covered this song. Most of all, thank you Jesse James - a man I would one day like to meet!
Recorded in Burlington ON, 11.17.2014 Thank you Tawgs and Crew.
