How to get more views on YouTube videos [legitimately]

In this series I show you how to get more views on YouTube Videos by increasing your exposure in search results.

HOW TO GET MORE VIEWS ON YOUTUBE VIDEOS: WHAT DO I KNOW?!
************************************************

In "the real world" I am paid to teach people the art of Search Engine Optimisation. It's a topic which is often shrouded in mystery but it's actually quite simple. If you want your website (or YouTube video) to do well in search results, then you need to focus on three areas: on-site SEO, off-site SEO and 'code'.

ON-SITE SEO: this is everything you can see with the naked eye when you visit any given website, plus something called "meta data"

OFF-SITE SEO: this is any reference to your website, or something on your website, elsewhere on the internet. This includes but is not limited to forums, blogs and social media sites.

CODE: ultimately, you want clean code that conforms to latest web standards. Using open source such as Wordpress or Joomla is one way to guarantee you are up to date.

Throughout this series I will explain the parallels between website SEO & YouTube SEO. In doing so I will show that the same techniques used for websites can be used to get more views on YouTube videos. This is made possible due to the fact YouTube is just a search engine... second only to the daddy of search: Google!

HOW TO GET MORE VIEWS ON YOUTUBE VIDEOS: SERIES GUIDE
************************************************

Episode 1:

I kicked off the series with a look at the video description. YouTube takes the first 160 characters and sets them as the "meta description". This is important for two reasons, both of which are explained in the video. Don't worry - there's no need to sit there and physically add up all of the characters. Episode 2:

Technically, this isn't anything to do with SEO. However, my channel recently became partnered and I wanted to add a "subscribe-to" link to my header image. Working out how to do so took me far longer than one would expect, so I figured I'd make a quick video in the hope it was of use to someone, somewhere, sometime. Given it indirectly helps you to pick up subscribers and, in theory, get more views on your YouTube videos, I felt I could get away with dropping it in this playlist.

Episode 3:

The video begins with a review of the experiment that I did in Episode 1, before moving onto some tips & tricks that will help you choosing your video title & tags.

Episode 4:

Due for upload on Saturday 17th March 2013, this will finish off the topic of video tags. I'll also look into a trick SEO's apply to website images that works just as well on YouTube videos.

HOW TO GET MORE VIEWS ON YOUTUBE: TWO CAVEATS
************************************************

1

There is no guarantee that using the techniques described in this series will get you more views on your YouTube videos. That might sound like a ridiculous caveat but if you ever hear an SEO professional say they can guarantee results, run a mile.

There is NEVER any guarantee in SEO. I cannot guarantee I will get you more views on your videos. What I can do is share with you the same techniques that, so far, have never let me down. These are totally legitimate ways of improving your search engine exposure over time. Note: this is not a quick fix. This is not about duping search engines or manipulating YouTube statistics. This is about a long term strategy that will probably (remember - no guarantees) help you to get more views on your YouTube videos.

2

SEO is an art, not a science. Consequently there is no "one size fits all" policy.
