'Lone Star' Jerry Retzloff, Texas Music Funseeker

Known to Texas musicians as “Lone Star Jerry,” Jerry Retzloff was the Austin-based district sales manager for the Lone Star Brewery in the mid-1970s who conspired with his longtime friend Willie Nelson to help each other sell lots more Willie records and Lone Star Beer to younger (but not underage) Texas audiences. Jerry and Stephen K. Peeples met at the 3rd Willie Nelson 4th of July Picnic in 1975 and have stayed in touch over the years. They caught up in this interview at his nephew's house on the river in Gruene, Texas on April 20, 2015. The day before, they'd been at the Alkek Library at Texas State University in nearby San Marcos for the Wittliff Collections' "Armadillo Rising" event spotlighting Austin's Armadillo World Headquarters. There, Peeples spoke with Retzloff, artist Jim Franklin, and Wittliff archivist Katie Salzmann; two clips are included in this playlist. All video (c) 2015-2017 by Stephen K. Peeples.
