An October Renaissance, Over the Rhine

Welcome to "An October Renaissance, Over the Rhine." This station is first dedicated to my all-time favorite group, Renaissance. They existed from about 1970 to the early 1980's, with a reunion album a few years ago. First led by lead singer Jane Relf and then Annie Haslam in a reformed Renaissance, this English group seemed to transcend genres and have a truly unique sound combining classical and rock stylings. The only group in my mind that came close to Renaissance was the sadly, short lived, October Project of the late 1990s. Hence October as part of the title of this station. OP managed to capture for me some of the Renaissance magic offering a sweeping classically tinged sound with expressive lyrics. OP was killed largely by a corporate record company who pushed them to crank out another album too soon. Be sure and listen for OP's lead singer Mary Fahl and her single effort, "Going Home." The Cincinnati, Ohio based group, Over the Rhine, that I discovered in the early 2000s, to me is in the same family tree as the other two, combining a powerful female lead singer with expressive folk and classical tonal sound with deep, poetic lyrics. OTR rounds out the sound I am looking for in this station. I hope you enjoy "An October Renaissance, Over the Rhine." Videos are in alphabetical order by song title for your viewing and listening pleasure. This playlist is dedicated to my brother Jeff who introduced me to Renaissance and other music that broaden my horizons as a listener and thinker.
