"They're here. They're hostile. And powerful people don't want you to know." Created by Bryce Zabel and Brent V. Friedman, "Dark Skies" reigned as the anchor series on NBC's Thrillogy Saturday night! The cult-hit series mixes fact and fiction in a story of the UFO cover-up in the 1960s, based on the idea that John Kennedy was killed because he wanted to disclose the truth about UFOs in his second term. After JFK's death in the pilot episode, the series became a cultural commentary about alienation, political rot, armageddon, and paranoia about accepted history not being true. It's about stacked decks and silent screams and still never giving up.

Out of that vision, Brent and Bryce received the Writers Guild "Created by" credit for "Dark Skies." During its 1995 to 1997 run, it won the Emmy award for its thrilling Main Title sequence, and received a WGA nomination for the pilot episode teleplay.

These curated clips begin to archive what the series was and why it worked so well. They have been archived by Bryce and Brent, as the series creators, to be "value-added" in the experience.

Another way to re-experience the series is to dive in for the full journey. In that case, we'd recommend the excellent 2011 DVD edition produced and distributed by Shout Factory! This is something you should definitely own in order to obtain the full immersive storyline. It has everything — alternate versions of the pilot, documentaries, easter eggs. It's one of the best DVD compilations of a series ever produced in the estimation of several of the reviewers.

The original, classic and definitive "Dark Skies" is an amazing piece of science fiction that is more relevant today than ever. Produced for Columbia Television (now Sony/Tristar) and NBC, the series anchored the network's Saturday night Thrillogy block.

We would like to reboot the series and have an insanely twisted way (or two) to do just that. It would, however, require a studio and a network that wanted to pay to have it done. We continue to keep hope alive. :-)

(Note: There is no connection between this original, "classic" Dark Skies which we created in 1996, and the movie on the same topic released under the same name in 2013.)
