Introduced in 2009 and modeled after the North American Effie competition, the Collegiate Effie competition gives undergraduate students a chance to create comprehensive marketing communication cases that address real world challenges for real world marketers.

Students are expected to think and act like professional marketers by developing a strategic, creative and effective solution to a marketing challenge proposed by their "client."

The inaugural challenge was offered by Heineken USA. The Collegiate Effie Awards Heineken USA PSA Challenge tasked students with creating a public service marketing communications campaign, in an effort to communicate how consumers should focus on making good decisions when choosing to drink or being around those who drink.

Each year the competition will present at least one new challenge.
