Every year, 22 species of ocean mammals come for peace, quiet and the odd photo op. The idea of seeing a whale in its natural habitat sounds nice enough, but when it really happens to you, it brings an almost indescribable feeling of awe and admiration. Take the humpback, for instance. Each weighs as much as a house. Thousands of these gentle giants cruise our shores each summer, chasing fish and spontaneously lifting their entire mass out of the sea in full, playful breach. And when people get close to this spectacle, they gush, they rave, they jump up and down and they tick it off as one of the best moments in their lives.
