I am a violinist whose journey so far can also be described well by a fellow YouTuber's video on bicycles. Bare with me on this one!

Search for:
Inspired Bicycles - Danny MacAskill April 2009 (user: inspiredbicycles) , or find it in my Favourites.

The first section (upto 1:22) describes the feelings of frustration and hardship with the difficulties of playing the violin (physical and emotional), but the video then moves on to demonstrate how you can feel when you DO finally get it right and it all comes together. Wow! That feeling is really quite something!

I watch this video every time I hit a wall with my playing, or when I need reminding that persistence and determination really do pay off.

Here are a few other things that have inspired me:

'Assiduus usus uni rei deditus et ingenium et artem saepe vincit' - Constant practice devoted to one subject often outdues both intelligence and skill.

"Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination are omnipotent " - Calvin Coolidge (American 30th President of the United States, 1872-1933).

And to balance this out with a British quote, it is always true to remember:

"Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. - Winston Churchill (British Orator, Author and Prime Minister during World War II. 1874-1965).
