<media:description>북, 탄도미사일 발사 美제재에 '상응조치' 예고 하루만에 도발

North Korea has this afternoon fired a ballistic missile into the East Sea, its seventh launch this year.
It comes just days after new U.S. sanctions targeting the North’s overseas cyber and revenue networks.
Our correspondent Oh Sooyoung has the latest.

North Korea fired a ballistic missile toward the East Sea on Friday, around two weeks after its previous provocation.
Seoul's Joint Chiefs of Staff says the launch was detected at 12:35 PM from the Daegwan area in Pyonganbuk-do Province, traveling about 700 kilometers.
The military says the missile was anticipated by intelligence; its launch was detected and tracked immediately, with Seoul sharing information in real-time with Washington and Tokyo.
South Korea and the U.S. are now analysing which model the missile was and its capabilities.
This marks North Korea’s seventh ballistic missile launch this year, and the second since President Lee Jae Myung took office.
The North's regime previously fired a missile just 16 days ago, before U.S. President Donald Trump's visit to the Peninsula, to attend the APEC meeting in Gyeongju City.
Friday's launch also comes three days after Washington strengthened sanctions aimed at curbing North Korea’s overseas revenue networks, through illegal cyber operations and coal exports.
North Korea issued a response shortly after the sanctions were announced, condemning Washington's move as “hostile pressure,” and warned that the North would take “corresponding measures.”
However, Korea Risk Group's Kim Jeongmin believes Pyongyang is not about to escalate tensions with the U.S..

&quot;If they were angry about the sanctions and if they wanted to signal to the U.S. that it's provoking the U.S., it would have not been SRBM but other types like IRBMs or ICBMs. But we're not seeing that right now And also Mr. Trump himself mentioned that he does not mind all of the short-range ballistic missiles. So partly it could be the North Korea testing how far that Trump will be generous about basically &quot;

Seoul’s Ministry of Unification said Thursday that the North’s reaction appeared restrained, noting the message was delivered by a vice-minister rather than by regime leader Kim Jong-un or senior party leadership.
An official had told the press that Pyongyang often aligns political statements and military activity to externally signal its resolve while maintaining cohesion at home.

&quot;Based on the NIS assessment a couple of days ago it, it does sound like North Korea is preparing for a potential summit so they are managing the level of their rhetoric but I wouldn't go as far as it is a direct signal that they are ready for dialogue immediately. (00:41) We have to consider domestically North Korea is reaching the end of the five year military plan. They have a lot of stuff to test. So this is probably a part of it.&quot;

President Lee Jae Myung's National Security Council convened to review Seoul’s response posture.
The government urged North Korea to stop actions that threaten peace on the Korean Peninsula, noting that the launch of a ballistic missile constitutes a violation of U.N. Security Council resolutions.

South Korea's Presidential Office says discussions are still underway on finalizing the joint fact sheet that will outline trade and security agreements with the United States.
A senior official told reporters on Friday that adjustments are being made to parts of the text related to security matters, while there are no issues on trade at the moment.
The official added it is &quot;difficult to specify&quot; when the document will be made public.
Questions have been mounting over the timing of the release, following Presidents Lee Jae Myung and Donald Trump's summit last week in Gyeongju.

Title: North Korea fires 2nd missile in 16 days in apparent protest against U.S. sanctions

North Korea fired a ballistic missile toward the East Sea on Friday, in just two weeks after its previous launch.
Seoul's Joint Chiefs of Staff says the launch was detected at 12:35 p.m. from the Daegwan area in Pyonganbuk-do Province, traveling about 700 kilometers.
It is North Korea’s seventh ballistic missile launch this year, and the second since President Lee Jae Myung took office.
Friday's launch follows Washington's strengthened sanctions aimed at North Korea’s overseas revenue networks.
The U.S. Treasury Department on Tuesday imposed sanctions on eight North Korean nationals and two institutions.

Title: North Korea, Russia hold military vice-ministerial talks

Over in North Korea.
High-ranking political and military officials from the regime and Russia have met in Pyongyang for talks.
According to North Korea’s state-run Korean Central News Agency, representatives from the Korean People’s Army General Political Bureau and Russia’s Main Military-Political Directorate held talks in the North Korean capital on Wednesday.
The meeting was attended by Pak Yong-il, vice director of the General Political Bureau of the Korean People's Army, and Russian Deputy Defense Minister Viktor Goremykin.
Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation and exchanges between the two nations' military and political institutions, in line with the deepening strategic partnership between Pyongyang and Moscow.

Title: Trump says 'game two plan' needed for possible Supreme Court ruling against his tariff policies

In the United States, the Supreme Court is deciding on the legality of President Donald Trump's sweeping tariffs, which could have major consequences for both the U.S. economy and global trade.
During a hearing on Wednesday, justices raised doubts about whether a 1977 emergency powers law gave Trump the authority to impose broad tariffs, or whether he overstepped the powers of Congress.
In response, President Trump said Thursday he will consider alternatives if the Court rules against his administration.
If the Court finds Trump’s tariffs unlawful, the government may have to refund some of the duties collected from businesses, which U.S. Trade Representative Jamison Greer estimates could exceed 100 billion U.S. dollars and could approach 200 billion, though no exact figure has been confirmed.

Title: Measures to export and enhance competitiveness of traditional Korean culture discussed

Lawmakers and stakeholders will work to develop traditional Korean culture as a new industry and tourism resource.
At a policy seminar hosted by the Kim Kyo-heung pledged budget support for a sustainable industry.
Participants also emphasized the need for government cooperation in establishing policies that promote the international exchange of traditional culture.

That is all from me today. Thank you for watching.

   <media:description>대한민국 농식품•농산업 2025년 1-10월 수출 사상 최고치 경신

Agricultural and food products exported from South Korea from January through October came to a record high, thanks to the growing popularity of Korean food in the Middle East.
Our economic correspondent Park Jun-han has the details.

South Korea’s &quot;K-Food+&quot; exports, which combine agricultural products and agro-industrial goods, recorded their highest-ever export value from January through October, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

The total export value for the period hit 11-point-24 billion U.S. dollars , around 16-point-3 trillion won, a notable increase of 5-point-7 percent from the same period last year, driven by strong global demand for Korean food products.

By region, the Gulf Cooperation Council countries saw the highest increase, with exports reaching 3-hundred-39-point-8 million dollars — a 20-point-4 percent rise from a year earlier.
The European Union plus UK followed closely, with exports to these countries rising 14-point-8 percent.
Exports to North America climbed 13-point-9 percent.

Especially from July through October, Gulf Cooperation Council countries saw a whopping 23-point-5 percent increase in exports, compared to just a zero-point-6 percent increase in the U.S.
Food items such as ice cream, beverages and sauces drove the strong export growth.

The agriculture ministry earlier this year said it plans to reach 14 billion dollars worth of overseas shipments by the end of the year.
With just November and December left, 2-point-76 billion dollars worth of K-food plus shipments need to be made to reach this goal.

The ministry said it will step up policy support for export companies by expanding financial assistance, easing export bottlenecks such as logistics and customs procedures, and promoting K-Food sales through global marketing initiatives tied to Hallyu, or the Korean wave.

   <media:description>대통령실 &quot;한미 팩트시트, 안보 분야 일부 문안 조정 논의 중&quot;

Good evening, welcome to News Center.
With more than a week since the ROK-U.S. Summit in Gyeongju, questions are mounting over when the two sides will release the joint fact sheet outlining their discussions on trade and security.
South Korea's Presidential Office says it may take longer than initially expected.
Also, it seems like the top office is betting on the tariffs to stay regardless of any Supreme Court ruling.
Our Presidential Office correspondent Song Yoo-jin reports.

It seems like the release of the joint fact sheet between South Korea and the United States, covering both trade and security negotiations, may take longer than expected.
A senior official from South Korea's Presidential Office told reporters on Friday that discussions are still underway to finalize the document.
The source explained that adjustments are being made to parts of the text related to security matters, and that it is &quot;difficult to specify&quot; when the document will be made public.
This comes after earlier expectations that, with &quot;no major differences,&quot; the announcement could be made this week.

On the trade front, however, there are reportedly no major sticking points at the moment.
The same source downplayed concerns that a potential U.S. Supreme Court ruling against U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff policies could invalidate tariff negotiations, saying the Trump administration would have countermeasures in place.

The official also addressed where South Korea's nuclear-powered submarines would be built.
Following his summit with President Lee Jae Myung last week, President Trump posted on social media that he had &quot;given approval to build a nuclear-powered submarine,&quot; mentioning that the sub would be built in Philadelphia.
According to the source, however, discussions between the two leaders last week were based on the premise of Seoul building the submarine's hull domestically, while sourcing fuel from the U.S.

&quot;If the U.S. allows us to obtain fuel for nuclear-powered submarines, South Korea will be able to build several with our own technology, equipped with conventional weapons.&quot;

The official added that major issues discussed between Lee and Trump will be reflected in the upcoming fact sheet, signaling that nuclear-powered submarines will be among them.

&quot; The joint fact sheet carries significant weight as it will include the results of the months-long, roller-coaster trade talks and decades-old security issues such as nuclear-powered submarines and reprocessing spent nuclear fuel.
It's no surprise there's so much attention on what the document will contain, and when it will finally be released.

   <media:description>Hello and welcome.
It's Friday November 7th here in Seoul and you're watching Press Perspective.
The latest Gallup survey shows global workplace engagement dropped for the first time in four years to stand at 21 percent in 2024.
Today we start with this trend among employees here and elsewhere.
I have Ruy Valdes with Spanish news agency EFE Spain.
Ruy welcome back.
I also have writer Colin Marshall with the pundit's take on today's topics.
Colin it's good to have you here.

1) Ruy, do tell us a bit more about these findings, and second, what are the implications of this reality for the employees themselves and for their companies?

2) Colin, workplace engagement among South Korean employees was found to hover below the global average.
What do you believe are the reasons behind the lack of connection between workers here and their jobs?

3) Ruy, the same Gallup study shows a double decline in both workplace engagement and quality of life among employees.
What have been some of your own experiences with regard to work environment and quality of life here in South Korea, and how does it compare to situations elsewhere?

4) Colin, what are some of your takeaways from this latest study on the state of global workplaces including that here in South Korea?

5) Ruy, let's now move on to another issue of interest with regard to South Korea in the international media.
Agence France-Presse just published an article titled &quot;Death becomes a growing business in ageing, lonely South Korea&quot;.
First, for the sake of our viewers who have not read the article, do give us a rundown.

6) Colin, do you suppose these &quot;chosen career paths&quot; among the youth are a clear reflection of our current reality?

7) Ruy, what can you tell us about the global state of the death business, if you will?
I mean, are bereavement cleanout services a career option for the young elsewhere?

8) Colin, also on a somber note.
A while back, there was quite a bit of heated public debate over &quot;no-kid zones&quot; at various public spaces.
More recently, a cafe here in Seoul faced backlash for banning Chinese patrons.
How do you explain this phenomenon, and is there a way to overcome it?

9) Ruy, keeping in mind the presence of such discrimination, activists here have been calling for tougher legal guidelines against it.
For the sake of perspective, do tell us a bit about the efforts beyond borders to root out discrimination.

All right.

That ends this edition of Press Perspective.
Thank you for watching.
Have a great weekend and see you Monday

<media:description>울산화력발전 붕괴 사고 3명 사망, 2명 사망 추정, 2명 실종

In the South Korean city of Ulsan a tower caved in during deconstruction work at a decommissioned power plant.
At least three workers have been confirmed dead.
Cha Yun-kyung has the latest.

As of 2 p.m. Friday, firefighting officials said three workers have been confirmed dead, two are presumed to be dead, and two others remain missing in the fatal collapse of a boiler tower in the southeastern city of Ulsan.

The 60-meter tower at Korea East-West Power’s Ulsan Thermal Power Plant collapsed during scheduled demolition work on Thursday afternoon, trapping nine workers at the site.

A worker in his 60s, rescued at 9:06 a.m. Friday, was confirmed dead after being moved to a hospital, while another in his 50s, rescued at 11:15 a.m. this morning, was confirmed dead by staff at an on-site emergency medical facility before being moved to the hospital.
The third fatality a worker found trapped between the structure and the ground on Thursday went into cardiac arrest during a rescue attempt and was pronounced dead at 4:53 a.m. Friday.

Progress at the collapse site has now been slowed to a near standstill.
The entry route is blocked by a dense wall of twisted rebar and steel, forcing crews to dig through more than 30 meters of debris just to reach the collapse point.
Rescue teams temporarily withdrew due to the heightened risk of a secondary collapse.
Nearby boiler towers — units 4 and 6 — have also been determined to be unstable, prompting the authorities to delay planned stabilization work.

&quot;Even during stabilization work, secondary accidents could occur, so that part has been put on hold. We decided in our situation assessment meeting that we will first conduct a thorough search, and then move on to stabilization or find another method.&quot;

“Speed matters, but the rescue has to be carried out safely — combining swift action with cautious dismantling.”

The National Fire Agency is continuing to search for the missing ---deploying a crane and rescue dogs after President Lee Jae Myung instructed officials to use all available personnel and equipment to save lives.

Cha Yun-kyung, Arirang News.

Exports of K-food products have been soaring and findings for the first ten months of this year show an almost SIX percent expansion on year driven by demand in the Middle East.
Our business correspondent Park Jun-han has the numbers.

South Korea’s &quot;K-Food+&quot; exports, which combine agricultural products and agro-industrial goods, recorded their highest-ever export value from January through October, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

The total export value for the period hit 11-point-24 billion U.S. dollars , around 16-point-3 trillion Korean won, a notable increase of 5-point-7 percent from the same period last year, driven by strong global demand for Korean food products.
