This Father’s Day, honour the fathers who believe in their daughters’ power. Make a gift today and stand with fathers like Ziauddin to build a world where every girl can learn and choose her own future.

<media:description>On March 23, schools across Afghanistan will reopen — but for the fourth year in a row, girls older than 11 will still be banned.

This is gender apartheid: deliberate, systematic and unchallenged.

Western governments once framed their intervention in Afghanistan as a mission to protect the rights of girls and women. But after a failed peace process and a chaotic withdrawal, those same girls and women have been left to bear the consequences — erased from public life, abandoned by those who once claimed to stand with them.

Words of concern are not enough. Tangible action is overdue.

Malala Fund is calling on individuals and institutions to stand in solidarity. Help us raise awareness, support Afghan girls still learning in secret and demand international accountability. Sign the letter at mala.la/letter.</media:description>

<media:description>Two years ago, girls and women in Afghanistan were free to learn, work, hold leadership positions and live freely. Now the Taliban’s restrictions confine them to their homes.

Malala gave the 21st annual Nelson Mandela lecture in South Africa and spoke on Afghanistan’s gender apartheid and what needs to be done to fight for Afghan girls and women.

<media:description>In 2013, Malala gave a speech at the United Nations that was heard around the world, declaring “one child, one book, and one pen can change the world.”

10 years later, on her 26th birthday, she took the stage again at the United Nations in Abuja, Nigeria to tell us what she’s learned since then. She shares her new vision for how we can achieve greater progress for girls’ education — and make sure the next generation of girls is able to learn and lead without fear.

<media:description>On her 16th birthday — soon after recovering from an attack that almost took her life — Malala spoke at at the UN and demanded that the world to listen to the young women who are raising their voices against injustice.

That was 10 years ago.

In the last decade, we've seen young women around the world lead the fight for education, social and climate justice, right to bodily autonomy, freedom of expression and so much more.

Join us in celebrating and honouring these young women and their determination to hold leaders accountable and drive change.

   <media:description>👏🏾👏🏿👏🏽 Brazil’s energy is unmatched.

In May, Malala traveled to Brazil and met several young Brazilian women, Malala Fund partners and Education Champions to learn about what it takes to build an inclusive, intersectional movement for girls’ education.

✨ In Olinda, young women from Black, Indigenous and quilombola communities spoke to her about their activism and how it has transformed their communities. 21-year-old student Vitoira told Malala how she has helped champion laws to ensure quality education for quilombola girls.

✨In Cabo de Santo Agostinho, young women opened up to Malala about feeling isolated during the pandemic and watching their classmates fail to make it back to school. Many of the girls she met conduct research on school dropouts and advocate for marginalised students’ access to education.

✨And in Brasilia she met with key ministers to share what Brazilian girls and education leaders told her about the challenges they face to improving girls’ lives — and what they need from policy makers: more government spending on education.

<media:description>Girls in Brazil are raising their voices and speaking up for their right to education. 📢

Young women from Malala Girls Project, created by INESC, created a petition demanding an investment of 10% of the country’s GDP for education. They collected over 5,000 signatures, and the petition was then delivered to Brazil’s National Congress.

And to help train girls for the meeting with Congress, Malala Fund’s Education Champion and policy advisor at INESC Cleo Manhas carried out a series of online workshops with the girls on the importance of educational budget.
