An unplanned excursion from Stratford International Station along the Hertford Union Canal, then Roman Road, Bethnal Green Road and along Holywell Lane with a reference to the Shoreditch Holy Well. Pulled through the Barbican and out through Smithfield to pay my respects to my namesake John Rogers the Martyr.

Taking in the Bronze Age burial mounds on Lodge Hill and Chinnor Barrows on Chinnor Hill and a section of The Ridgeway.
Then a look inside the beautiful church of St. Mary Radnage with its restored 13th Century walll paintings. The walk ends at West Wycombe with the famous Dashwood Mausoleum and Golden Ball.

<media:description>This walk follows partly the traces of a journey I undertook in March 2007 inspired by a line from Ian Bourn's Leytonstone set film Lenny's Documentary. From the Green Man Roundabout and the Leyton Stone I pass through Wanstead (Woden's Stede) to look at the Victorian Orphanage for the children of Merchant Seaman. Then I cross the River Roding to Claybury Hospital - a late Victorian Asylum now converted to a private estate called Repton Park.

You can watch Ian Bourn's film Lenny's Documentary here at the Carroll Fletcher website until 8th July http://carrollfletcheronscreen.com/2017/06/28/ian-bourn/

Also with brief appearances from the River Quaggy and the Chaffinch Brook. Thanks to Iain Millar for suggesting the walk and great company on the day.
