In one of Zambia’s most remote communities, we met a grandmother whose story shook us deeply and inspired us even more.

When her niece passed away shortly after childbirth, she was left with two newborns to care for, including her own baby and her late niece’s child. With no formula and no food, she did something unimaginable: she began breastfeeding both babies. Out of love. Out of survival.

Thanks to the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services (MCDSS), and support from the European Union Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid (ECHO), the Community Welfare Assistant Committees (CWACs) quickly stepped in. Together with UNICEF Zambia, they helped this family receive baby formula, clothes, and social protection support under the Public Welfare Assistance Scheme (PWAS).

Today, this baby girl is safe, smiling, and growing, proof of what’s possible when we show up for families, no matter how far they are.

This is what it means to leave no child behind.

In Lunga District, life-saving interventions are reaching children, pregnant women, and breastfeeding mothers through the leadership of the @MinistryofHealthZM.

Families are now using the Family MUAC tool to detect malnutrition early at home. With timely treatment—including corn-soya blend (CSB) and ready-to-use therapeutic food (RUTF)—children are recovering and growing stronger.

Thanks to protection case management, vulnerable children and families are also being connected to health services and social support.

“Mothers now bring their children to the clinic because this programme has brought a lot of good.”

This is why @UNICEFZambia exists: to protect children's rights, support their health and nutrition, and ensure they have the chance to thrive.

With funding from @EUcrisisresponse and @euinzambia, we’re working together to improve child health and well-being in Lunga.

Let’s keep children healthy—together.

Whether it’s sacks, pots, or backyard plots — your home garden could be your biggest investment in your family’s nutrition” — The Young Farmer Maanda 🍅
Meet Amanda Elizabeth Sianga. From growing food in sacks to sustainable farming with manure, she’s showing us that you don’t need acres to feed your family well. 💚

Zambian music artists B’Flow, Kantu, and Brio ZM electrify the UNICEF Zambia Nyamuka Advocacy campaign. "Nyamuka," a Nyanja word meaning "rise," is the central theme of this powerful medley. The artists encourage us to rise up and take action for nutrition, incorporating the rich languages of Lozi, Tonga, and Nyanja. The message is clear: Rise Up!
