This NAIDOC week, Fitzroy Crossing Kimberley WA community have created the first stage of a new campaign called "Standing Strong" against suicide, drugs and alcohol.

IHHP, Gilimbaa, Kimberley Mental Health and Drug Service and Nindilingarri Cultural Health Service facilitated a powerful creative process with local senior elders and young people making a music video, photoshoots, interviews and art workshops. Through this Standing Strong creative process we explored themes of building resilience, how to help each other get through tough times, the importance of standing strong together, creating a safe space and assisting each other to get through the hard times.

During the week we focused on the importance of culture, language and family; and in strengthening identity and well-being. We discussed the issues and problems that alcohol and drugs can have on the community and the importance of making the right choices.
Elders from five language groups all gathered together to create a shared message and discussed how important it is to stand strong together as one, to support each other and be strong in culture, language and community!

The young people who participated demonstrated their potential to be strong, positive role models in the future and to carry on the message passed down from the elders.

IHHP and Bega Health in Kalgoorlie joined together with East Kalgoorlie Primary and some of the teenage students in Klontarf and Girls Academy, to write this song tackling tobacco. They wanted to throw out a challenge to Kalgoorlie and the rest of the country to be the ones to make the change and quit smoking. These students had so much energy for filming and even went above and beyond to meet us at locations around town. The amazing staff of Bega Garnbirringu helped so much with the writing of the song, with transport, moral support for the students and then also with singing and performing. Thank you so much to them for this deadly week and video clip. Also big thanks to East Kalgoorlie Primary, Klontarf and Girls Academy for all the support for this song. Now can we be the make the change in Kalgoorlie and the rest of the country?

Verse 1

Kalgoorlie is a golden place
Where it doesn’t matter about your race
Where the bush and the lakes call out to us
We love the fresh air, we love the buzz
Hanging at the Youth club with the whole crew
We’re deadly at our sport, it’s what we do
Many people come here from all around
Smoking and drinking brings our mob down
Our lungs are important; we need you to listen
Have you noticed some of our mob are missing?
hey you mob leave those smokes alone
you could call quit line just pick up the phone
Bega health, is just down the street
to keep us healthy, to keep us upbeat
It’s a healthier way, for us to be
stand up be strong let your lungs be free

Pre Chorus

1. Give up the smokes! Give it up, give it up
2. Give up the smokes! Put out the butt
3. Give up the smokes! We know you can
4. Bega Health can lend you a hand

Chorus

Can we be the ones to make that change?
Live longer, Grow stronger,
Can we be the ones to make that change?
Our Culture, Strong Culture,

Verse 2

Our country is old, our stories told
Culture to share, land to behold
Make people safe, keep our home great
We’ve got better futures to create,
Feel the earth quake at the super pit,
If you’re looking for gold, Kal is it
Doing the right thing for my family
I won’t let peer pressure get to me
Cause many diseases come from smokes
7000 chemicals in one cigarette
Rat poison, fly spray, that’s what you get
Stay away from it, just let it be,
Like we said puyu wantikatinhi
A better world tomorrow is what we’re facing
A smoke-free nation is our generation

Breakdown

1. It’s easy to stop, if you’re loving your mob,
2. It’s easy to stop; it’s bad for your lungs,
3. It’s easy to stop, if you’re loving your mob,
4. Second hand smoke is bad for our young

Family or a smoke, I know what’s import-ant,
Make the right choice cus it’s bad for the young,

Daly River Nauiyu Community NT 'Keep Smilin' !!

Last week, as apart of NAIDOC celebrations and first week of school holidays IHHP artists Tim, Jjay, Greg and Matt in collaboration with TEAMhealth and the Daly River 'Nauiyu' Communityl created this powerful mental health awareness song called 'Keep Smiling'. The youth alongside IHHP workshopped ideas around coping mechanisms and how we can deal with our emotions when we are feeling down whilst still being deadly young leaders who are proud of their culture, identity and community. IHHP and TEAMhealth cannot thank the ridiculously talented youth and community of Daly River for their hard work, creativity, support and commitment all week. Special shout out to Vic Daly Shire and Sacha King from TEAMhealth and of course Senior Elder Miriam Rose!!

VERSE 1

Daly River is where we from JUDAS

Crocs in the water, rivers all around
Be safe at the crossing or you’re going down

Walk away if you’re feeling sad
Stop the bullying it makes us mad
I feel happy with my crew TYSON
Chilling at Chillin makes us cool
Smoking and drinking makes you a fool TAMMY

To celebrate the 35 year anniversary of Yiyili Aboriginal Community School, IHHP and senior high school class guided by Paul Cox and Frances Dawson wrote, recorded and sang this incredible Gooniyandi song to celebrate culture, language and the proud history of Gooniyandi people.

Gooniyandi people have been the custodians of this language and country for thousands of years. This song was written for and dedicated to all Gooniyandi people past and present who have paved the way and left a great legacy of a rich language and proud culture which will be treasured and continued to be celebrated by future generations.

This song was also sung by: Leon Cox (Walkabout Boys), Alinta Riley and Sharona Hester

Yiyili Mawoolie is a reworked composition of an old Gooniyandi song written by elders in the 1980’s. We would like to acknowledge the original songwriters for their words, language and creativity and we have reworked the song and added more to the story.

We are really proud of this Music Video and please share, like, post repost and spread this beautiful language and country across the world.

Belyuen Community NT 'Gotta Talk it Out and Let it All Out !!

Last week, IHHP artist Jess, Jjay, Brayden and Matt in collaboration with TEAMhealth and the Belyuen Community School created this powerful catchy mental health awareness song called 'Talk it Out'. The youth alongside IHHP workshopped ideas around coping mechanisms and how we can deal with our emotions when we are feeling down whilst still being deadly young leaders who are proud of their culture, identity and community. IHHP and TEAMhealth cannot thank the ridiculously talented youth and community of Belyuen for their hard work, creativity, support and commitment all week. Special shout out to Renee, Ses and Jodie from the Belyuen School and Sacha from TEAMhealth and of course Senior Elder Nana Anne!!

IHHP and Western Australia Country Health Service and the Meekatharra shire worked together to develop a sensitive topic music video clip, around STI's and their prevention and treatment. Also tackling the issues around drugs and alcohol when making choices about relationships. The participants, with the help of the community Adults and Youth Workers, acknowledge that the hardest part of this topic is encouraging youth to get treated. The young artist put this incredible song together, and displayed amazing maturity around this topic.

Thanks to WACHS for inviting us out to Meekatharra, and also the community of Meekatharra for being so welcoming. We are really proud of the collective effort involved in making this music video clip.

Indigenous Hip Hop Projects artists Dallas Woods, Bakerboyr, Tobiahs and Syd were proud and privileged to visit Djugerari Remote Community School in the Central Kimberley.

Our artist worked with the Students, Teachers and Elders to write and record a song to represent the community, the country and school life in Djugerari.

The students were very proud of their school and demonstrated how they stand by their school values at all times.

The community were also very proud of the Ngurrara Rangers who play a huge role in the community teaching young ones and looking after country. It was great to get the Rangers involved in a massive dance scene.

One again a huge thank you to the lovely community of Djugerari for inviting us to your country and making us feel very welcome. And congratulations you mob on a deadly song and music video. SING IT LOUD and PROUD!.

Special thanks to Punata Stockman from Territory Families, Northern Territory Government and Rachel Kerr from Ngurratjuta/Pmara Ntjarra Aboriginal Corporation for their help and support during the week.

Baker Boy is the freshest new Yolngu hiphop talent from Northern Territory Australia who is proudly rapping in Yolngu Matha language representing his Arnhem Land families. This song is an example of the real Aussie Hip-hop!

Baker Boy had a huge hit last year with his dance track 'Yolngu Style' and has bounced back with his first rap track. Teaming up with gun up 'n' coming producer Tobiahs Fakhri and getting killer chorus featuring 14 year old Kian Brownfield on the hook. This track is so infectious and good luck with trying not to play it on repeat.

'Baker Boy' the Fresh Prince of Arnhem Land!!!

Cloud 9 Lyrics
(Lyrical translation the Yolngu Matha to English !)

Intro Adlibs
Baker boy in the town
bounce with it
I'm on cloud 9
bounce with it

Verse 1
Don't be shame
you have a good brain good heart
they see you really humble don't ever change or you might crumble look after yourself just think about god
Don't turn ever turn back on god
way gela (skinned name) it's your turn to look after the sisters because I stay really far in the cold
keep your head strong
we gonna fly high like and eagle
don't wanna see no ego
don't think about it let go
just hold on to my hand and let's go
I am baker boy young man not a boy
you can't control me like a toy
im a human being just like you and me
we are family stop the jealousy
come with me now, break it down, North side of town,
Stop being the clown, be the person that chases the crown
coz at the end of the day youll be found
so never back down.

Pre chorus
You wanna be as good as me? Boy you better practise
Step back feel the power of my blackness! x2

Chorus
Cant stop me now, you cant bring me down
I'm on cloud 9, and I'm not coming down x2

Verse 2
You look each other with jealousy
like you are crazy
when ever the truth comes out
your heart is ripping out
You gotta stay strong no dout,
the bigger the crowd the bigger we are
coz the internet changes the line,
coz they they dont want us too divide
from the human race
always on the case, ended up getting chased
now we're standing in chains
Flash back being black reality hits back
your system is whack trying to change the track because
I see white people always see black people differently
police man does the same job
gotta understand this is our land
making our body sick with medicine alcohol and marijuana we are destroying each other so there you go

Pre chorus
You wanna be as good as me? Boy you better practise
Step back feel the power of my blackness! x2

Chorus
Cant stop me now, you cant bring me down
I'm on cloud 9, and I'm not coming down x4
