[MAKNA BURSARY ASSISTANCE PROGRAMME]

MAKNA’s Bursary Assistance Programme assists financially-challenged patients with a monthly allowance, medical equipment, medication and ancillary items to enable them to cope with cancer.

To ensure a smooth implementation of this programme, MAKNA receives cooperation from Medical Social Work Department based in government hospitals. These officers screen applications and gather relevant information from their cancer patients.

Once gathered, the documents will be forwarded to MAKNA for assessment. If they meet set standards, patients will eventually receive the amount of financial assistance needed.

<media:description>KLIMB KINABALU 2016 training at Bukit Tabur Far-East

It was challenging and at times nerve-wrecking. The uneven trail and rough, rocky terrain tested the climbers physically and mentally, but the MAKNA Klimb Kinabalu team made it to the top of Bukit Tabur as part of their training in preparation for the ultimate test – a climb up Mount Kinabalu to raise awareness and funds in support of the cancer cause.

Check out this video of their Tabur climb and get ready to cheer them on come 17 August!

Flight for the MAKNA Klimb Kinabalu team is sponsored by AirAsia Berhad with insurance provided by Tune Protect.

<media:description>Since the initiation of the Cancer Research Award in 2001, MAKNA has awarded grants to 45 researchers with the aim to generate significant findings and contribute new knowledge in the fight against cancer. Recently, MAKNA caught up with three past recipients to find out how they have progressed, the outcome of their work, and the reasons that compelled them to pursue research in cancer – reasons that go beyond mere scientific achievements.

<media:description>MAKNA Digital Mobile Mammogram Screening Unit was invited by the UMNO WANITA on the recently held UMNO General Assembly 2015.

Throughout the assembly many visited the trailer to know more about cancer awareness and in particularly mammogram screening. The aim was to increase the awareness on looking after our health by going for regular check-ups.
There were many other health partners were invited to provide different types of health screening for the participants of the assembly. Communication &amp; Multimedia Minister, Datuk Seri Dr. Mohd Salleh Tun Said Keruak visited the trailer together with the Chairlady of the Women's wing of the UMNO, Yang Berhormat Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil.

In 2011, MAKNA’s initiative to provide mobile mammogram services to local communities everywhere in the country became reality when the GE Sonographe Digital Mammography System and all necessary supporting equipment, housed in a customized 40-foot trailer was approved and licensed by the Ministry of Health as fully fit for operations. The objective of this particular service is to reach out to women who may not have access to mammograms due to their locations and affordability reasons.
