Polio is entirely preventable. Yet, while eradication is within reach, it now stands at a crossroads.

Polio eradication is within reach. With the right actions today, we can make polio the second human disease ever eradicated -and protect children for generations to come.

The World Polio Day 'A Dose of Good News' is a moment to pause and feel hopeful and to remember vaccines' critical role in helping children survive and thrive.

The South-South Cooperation project “Simplified Condominium Sanitation in the Municipality of Mulenvos” is an initiative coordinated by the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC), of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE), and the government of Angola, in partnership with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), with funding from the IBSA Fund (India, Brazil, South Africa). It also has Brazilian partner institutions, such as the Water and Sewage Company of the State of Ceará (CAGECE), the National Health Foundation (FUNASA) and the Secretariat of Cities of Ceará.

The project aims to improve the institutional capacities of Angola's public and private entities responsible for urban and peri-urban sanitation. The project also aims to strengthen community-based organizations, promoting community engagement in the area of sanitation and solid waste management for recycling.

This video portrays the second year of implementation of this project, which focused on community engagement. Weekly community meetings were organized, facilitated by UNICEF, which created spaces for dialogue, collaboration, and shared decision-making. Through these meetings, communities stopped being just beneficiaries of the project and started acting as active participants and agents of transformation. Community members have been hired to implement the sanitation works, and the community is being heard throughout this process, reinforcing the commitment to the project.
