“This video spotlights the UPSHIFT Programme in Namibia, highlighting the programme's reach, and impact on young people as part of advocacy and resource mobilization for continued investment from government, development partners and donors, both internationally and domestically. The video showcases how the UPSHIFT programme works I partnership with young people to develop their agency to be catalysts of social change. Over the past 3 years, the UPSHIFT programme has supported numerous young people through social innovation and entrepreneurship, equipping them with the skills, mentorship, networks and resources needed to succeed in the future. The programme is laying the foundation for a more engaged and active youth population and contributes to building a more sustainable and equitable future for Namibia.

The majority of participants are adolescents and young people aged 14-24 years who are from impoverished backgrounds with limited or no access to opportunities to advance their skills and meaningfully contribute to economic growth.
This video for the Galz and Goals was produced to highlight the achievements and perspectives in relation to the programme as part of advocacy and resource mobilization for continued investment from government, development partners and donors, both internationally and domestically.

The video further showcases UNICEF's work on promoting children's rights through sport. The Galz and Goals programme has over the years addressed existing and emerging challenges of in-school and out-of-school adolescents by using the convening power of football to bring girls together to play, learn new life skills and make informed life choices on and off the field using the Sport to Life (S2L) curriculum. The curriculum accords an opportunity for girls to gain confidence, learn problem-solving and negotiation skills, and access information and services on healthy lifestyles and on HIV/AIDS, particularly HIV prevention.

Most of the girls who take part in Galz and Goals come from vulnerable communities and families experiencing various social challenges which they had to overcome in their own lives.

While surfing the internet, playing a game online, scrolling through social media, opening an email or even receiving a message from a friend, you may receive a link, see a pop-up or come across sexual content involving a child. Every time you watch this content, this child is being abused again and again.

You can do something about it!

In Namibia, simply visit Lifeline Childline’s website and report anonymously: https://www.lifelinechildline.org.na/ or visit the Internet Watch Foundation's website: https://www.iwf.org.uk/
Copy-paste the link to the abusive content and click on submit report. You can also visit your nearest police station. By doing this, you help remove the content and save this child from exploitation.

Be the change. #EndViolence online.

As parents and caregivers we often experience a feeling of helplessness when it comes to our children's activities online. But even if we ourselves do not fully understand the internet, we can help our children maximize its benefits and minimize its risks. This video gives you tips how.

We want our children to explore the internet and the world beyond our village, town, and country. We recognize the opportunities the internet brings for their development, education, information, entertainment, socialization, employment and business opportunities. But what about the risks?

Being connected to the internet, smartphones, computers and tablets, can offer your child many opportunities like educational activities for school, learning new skills, games, connecting with friends, and opportunities for expression online. Despite the many benefits of being online, your child can be exposed to risks, including violent and sexual material, content promoting self-harm and suicide, hate speech, sexual harassment, cyber bullying, and online child sexual exploitation such as grooming.

Watch the video and start today. Be the change. #EndViolence Online.
