(legitimately can't remember which patch we're on right now :dying:) This year, on my birthday, I decided to try and solo my favorite trial in FF14, Tsukuyomi. I have a lot of personal reasons to be in love with this trial (and I still want to i-level sync clear Extreme someday) but ultimately its gameplay is ALSO really fun. I loved routing out my resources for this, especially during the second phase with the enrage. That was...a genuinely fun challenge that wasn't too bad and still kept me on my toes. The first phase is a LOT harder on the story fight than extreme for some reason. It seems like Extreme scales with your max HP, where the story version just does a fuckload of damage, so the tank busters hurt harder for this particular challenge. The main portion of the fight...with one of my favorite songs, Wayward Daughter...is truly something. I think DPS may make this way easier due to Bloodbath, but my thought process was that a healer could deal decent damage and sustain with limited problems, especially on WHM, where I drop only a couple heals and I'm back to ready + the new mitigation tools we have with Aquaveil and buffed Benison. Unfortunately, it seems like I've hit a wall. Lunacy works like Akh Morn does, hitting more times for each time you hit the phase, so it's a soft enrage, and I definitely do NOT deal enough damage to beat it. It's possible with better gear I could at this level I could, maybe with raid gear and a relic weapon, but my playtime in recent months has been very low, so I doubt I'll be doing that. If someone can beat my record with a healer, then I'd love to see it! Send it my way. Sorry for the weird mic pops btw. This may be one of the most visceral experiences I've had fighting an SMT boss...possibly ever. I knew going into this battle that it was going to be tough. However, I also knew that unlike Demi-Fiend, I could beat it underleveled. I had the capability, even with this game's insane level scaling and on the hardest difficulty. It did take a lot of strategizing, practice, and luck to finally get this attempt, and it gets even crazier knowing that each good attempt was a half hour +. Friends of mine can attest from watching these attempts that they were absolutely soul crushing when I did lose. The craziest attempt that ended in a loss not only ended with a Freikugel miss from my Asura (on the last hit I needed to win...), it also managed to BLUE SCREEN MY COMPUTER. Not even my PC wanted to see me lose in such a demoralizing fashion... So, here's the thought process that went into this fight. 1) Turn 1 Omagatoki Dance with Nahobino and Gabriel while getting buffs up - this was easily my best opportunity to erase about 15% of Shiva's life bar right then and there. After that I had to pray for good Thalassa Gramaryes. (Ayyy Apollo Justice fans) 2) I think I have figured out how Shiva's AI works - it's almost exactly like Demi-Fiend's conditions (this game, not DDS), I'm 90% sure. In case you don't know those conditions, when Shiva hits his 5th press turn without an ally dying, he Tandavas. If all his allies die in the same turn, he Tandavas - unless he has Magatsuhi or Impaler's Animus, in which case *he seemingly never Tandavas*, but will still summon allies on his second press turn as if he did. (Replace Tandava with Gaea Rage in Demi-Fiend's case...) 3) Ananta is a MAJOR pain. In addition to providing an Ice null to make my damage far less safe when she spawns, she can Mediarama to heal Shiva for about **15-25k** which is an instant reset. She also Masukukajas normally which is also annoying. Never let Ananta get a press turn. Each one just gives you more opportunities to lose. Try to kill her asap to stall the inevitable Tandava while keeping the less threatening adds alive. 4) Buff control buff control buff control. This is a war of attrition and you need to win the buff war to even remotely stand a chance of success. Boon Boost EX is a MUST and I was lucky to have it on as many demons as I did, even with my lust for getting optimal fusions. Debilitate and Luster Candy with +5 Aiding are essential if you can get it... I was EXTREMELY unlucky with Sutra farming, particularly for the Aiding variety so I stuck with what I had to avoid the potential for overleveling. 5) The end of the fight (last 25% or so of Shiva's HP) is a massive damage race. You can't hope to keep up buffs AND finish Shiva off quickly AND heal all at the same time anymore. Your resources are probably low at this point. Avoid killing all the adds whenever possible and exclusively kill Ananta to forestall Tandava. You do NOT want to deal with the defense debuff right now, especially when Shiva is firing off Impaler's Animus and crit Megidolaons turn after turn after turn. Focus on survival and damage. 6) What the fuck Tandava can MISS???? The successful attempt was the first time I have EVER seen it happen, I frankly couldn't believe it. It led to a much better start than usual... This game is easily my GOTY and I'm glad to have finally beat...the first ending. Yikes. I couldn't even get the True Ending off of this clear because I had already beaten Abdiel :superdying:. Will definitely be returning to this game to finally best Demi Fiend as well as try out some alternative builds.
