From 2013-2016, 16 local organisations provided holistic support to survivors of sexual and gender based violence within a framework of transitional justice and consistent with Uganda's national efforts to provide redress for survivors. This included legal support, livelihoods support and psychosocial support. In the film, the women describe in their own words how this support helped them rebuild their lives, overcome stigma and discrimination within their communities and provide hope for a better future for their children. Implementing partners included FIDA Uganda, Amref Health Africa, Uganda Fund, Centre for Reparations and Rehabilitation (CRR), Justice & Reconciliation project, FINASP, Lango Youth Development Network (LAYDNET), GWED-G, Uganda Law Society, WORUDET, Grassroots Reconciliation Group, CEFORD, A4D, Action for Community Development (ACOD-UG). ACORD Uganda provided technical and methodological support to the MacArthur Foundation's grantees including in theory of change, M&E, learning, and capacity development for advocacy. It's a story that begins with recognizing the tremendous work that Kenyan citizens are carrying out in the country, aiming to empower and unite the Nation towards social justice and governmental accountability. Without their powerful will and the support of civil society organisations, progress and development would happen but at a much slower pace. The UN-led process on defining a successor to the current Millenium Development Goals, the Post 2015 development framework, will impact the world, Africa and Kenya, and in particular the most marginalised women, men and children. Most stakeholders want a global agenda post 2015 but the questions are: How is it being developed? What should this framework or architecture look like? Who will shape the agenda? Many consultation processes are happening on the post-2015 framework, but too few of these consultations are specifically aimed at gathering the voices of the grassroots. One of the strongest criticisms of the MDGs is that they were not designed after consulting communities in countries in the South. It is vital that the most powerful decision makers who will eventually determine the nature of the new framework hear the voices and experiences of those who it is targeted at. This is what this short film is all about, taking Kenya as an example.
