He speaks of that day in reverential tones, of being “in the presence of God” and “at the edge of heaven.” Roughly a third of people who have a close brush with death report a transcendental near-death experience. In the U.S. alone, millions of people each year report such an experience. While near-death experiences are common, so too is nearly immediate dismissal by health care professionals.
