For over a year, Dieussika has been living with her family in a displacement site. The violence robbed her of the chance to attend school for several months in 2024.

With support from UNICEF and Education Cannot Wait, catch-up classes were organized for students who had fallen behind.

As a result, more than 58,000 9th and final grade students were able to return to learning in 2024.

Grand-Goave, Haiti - When her 11-year-old daughter, Noel-Dina, was struck by fever and unbearable abdominal pain, Oriata didn't Hesitate. She immediately took her child into her arms and, with no means of transportation, walked the nearest hospital. “She couldn't walk anymore because she was so weak. I had to carry her on my back. I was terribly worried and thought I was going to lose her,” says Oriata, her eyes filled with tears .

Thanks to awareness campaigns in their area, Oriata learned that the lack of latrines was one of the main reasons for the spread of cholera and other waterborne diseases.

Without waiting for outside help, she began digging a pit in her yard. “I didn't have many resources, but I knew I had to do something, not just for my daughter, but for all the children in the neighborhood,” she explains.

At just 22 months old, little Djoucika is already fighting for her life. She suffers from severe acute malnutrition – a condition threatening thousands of children in Haiti.

UNICEF is supporting health centres with life-saving nutritional services. Thanks to the generous support of the European Union and the Government of Canada, children like Djoucika are receiving the treatment they need and are now on the path to recovery.

Every child deserves a healthy start in life. Together, we can fight malnutrition and give hope back to Haiti’s children.

Baby Love is being screened for malnutrition at a UNICEF-supported health centre in Haiti. At just her young age, she is far too small and suffers from severe malnutrition.

Children like Love are treated with ready-to-use therapeutic food, a simple peanut paste enriched with essential vitamins and minerals that can save lives.

But in Haiti, child malnutrition rates are soaring due to poverty and violence. Together with the Ministry of Health, UNICEF is working to ensure every child has access to treatment and the chance to grow healthy and strong.

Kenscoff, a community in the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area, has endured relentless attacks from armed groups for nearly two months. Caught in the crossfire, families—especially children—live in constant fear, always prepared to flee at a moment’s notice.

Schools remain closed, placing children’s futures in jeopardy.

“What I wish for children in Haiti – not only mine – is to have a future,” says Blandine, a mother of two.
