OUER | Stingray Nebula EP | Dirt Crew Recordings
    Cat No. : DIRT116
    Rel Date : 11.02.2019

    Track list:
    A1. Stingray Nebula
    A2. Undine
    B1. Thales
    B2. Inside
    B3. Train Ride to Bratsk

    Release Info:
The OUER guys just live down the road from us in Berlin and we have been crossing paths many times these past years so it is with great joy we can finally present a full EP with their unique approach to electronic music on Dirt Crew Recordings. Since their debut on “HEIST” in 2016 Xaver and Oliver have consistently pushed their sound and production, on their own OUER imprint they released four EP’s up till now and the latest called “E” is just a few weeks old as we speak.

The A side opens with the title track “Stingray Nebula”, a bliss composition of layered arpeggios underlined by a deep sub bass, building steadily towards etheric strings setting in and descending again with a break beat ending that builds perfect grounds for the following dance floor stomper “Undine”. That second A side track is a great mix of Deep House and Electronica and is what makes OUER’s music so special, almost entering trance territories here but keeping those Chicago and Detroit references alive.

When we head over to the B side we encounter some new tracks that really made us want to release this EP in the first place. The beautiful “Thales” contains live bass and percussive instrumentation and is a crossover indie- tronica gem. Following that is the deep “Inside” where an “emo” piano themed House jam meets clever vocal sampling and filtered synth stabs to produce a great going groove. Closing out we have some real ambience electronica for you in “Train Ride to Bratsk”, again played mostly live and using acoustic instruments recorded in their Berlin studio the OUER guys are crossing borders again and turned out this piece of goodness.

Enter the world of OUER, we hope you like it as much as we do! Show less

    Taken from Dan Only | Fragments EP | DIRT119 | Out 24.06.2019

    Tracklist:

    A1 Someday Ft. AHKI
A2 All That’s Left (Piano Dub Mix)
    B1 Emulsion
    B2 What I Want
    B3 Breathe

    Release Info:

We are super pleased to welcome back Dan Only with a brand new EP on Dirt Crew. Since last year’s debut record “The Wurly Chronicles” Dan has been super busy in the studio working on his sound, experimenting with many genres outside of House. This EP is the product of many late hours in the studio that translate into his unique touch on a wider spectrum of electronic music.

On The A-side you will find that deep and warm House sound we got to know Dan for when we first crossed paths. “Someday” is an exploration into the feeling of hopefulness and uncertainty that comes with looking towards a future state that is unknown. It’s steered by AHKI's bouncing bassline and the chord progression that it inspired. “All That’s Left (Piano Dub Mix)” has a driving groove with a slow reveal. This one carefully unmasks itself and shows its true colors towards the tail-end, leaving you with “All That’s Left”.

The B-side of this 12” is all about breaks, electro, and jungle inspired tunes. The opener “Emulsion” is a balance between light and dark, soft and hard, speeding up and slowing down. The rhythm section drives this one forward, but the melodic elements are slowly pulling back at it, leaving you somewhere in the middle. It's a musical attempt of trying to mix oil into water and having one float on top of the other. "An emulsion is a mixture of two or more liquids that are normally immiscible."

“What I Want” comes armed with an S950 and an MS20 – this one is a deep dive into the methods of making break- tinged music of the 90s. Brooding bass-lines and atmospheric melodies take you through the dark Canadian winter months when this was created. Closing with “Breathe”, expect waves of euphoria and gated mantras that'll pull you in and out until a state of bliss washes over you. Let the 909 and bubbling 101 carry you to shore. This one pairs well with deep breathing.

Enjoy this new excursion into the sonic worlds of Dan Only.

    2 First Day With Lucien
    3 Greed
    4 Lockwood
    5 Interlude for Marc
    6 Clarence J. Boddicker
    7 Friends
    8 Joint No. 5
    9 Leaving 19th
    10 Obsession
    11 Eaux Troubles

    Release Info:

After S3A’s “Deep Love” contribution last year we are stoked to present you this great collection of music! Coming from the French underground S3A aka Max Fader is absolutely no stranger to the scene. With releases on Local Talk, Quartet Series and his own “Sampling As An Art records” he is deeply rooted in House, Hip Hop, Disco, Soul and Funk serving residencies at Paris clubs “Concrete” and “REX” he has become a local favourite as well with his DJ and Live sets. We are more than excited to release this special debut album that showcases some older and recent work, with live acoustic songs from early 2017 recorded at the Paris “Red Bull Music” studios to new sample based House and Disco infused tracks in the signature “S3A” style we got to love so much in recent years.

“Fever”, “Friends, “Joint No. 5” and “Greed” are all funk fuelled jams composed by Max, re-played and recorded again in several live jams with fellow musicians Nicolas Taite, Raphael Vallade and Pierre Vadon and edited in the studio by S3A afterwards, they breath this special Soul and Funk love Max got into by listening to “Masters at Work" and old Disco jams. The latter “Greed” has a special story, it is a cover of an early “Laurent Garnier” track that got reworked by “Avril” in the early 00’s, here Max wanted to present his own Jazz and Funk perspective on that same track.

The club stompers “First Day With Lucien”, “Lockwood”, “Clarence J. Boddicker” and “Leaving 19th” are the true party business on this album and range from Deep House to more classic edit style Disco tracks with live improvisations played on top of them. This is what made us love the S3A sound from the start and it has that unique cut up sample work Max is best at.

“Interlude for Marc”, “Obsession” and “Eaux Troubles” introduce a third vision of S3A’s musical universe. Cinematic, emotional and with an much more old school “Trip Hop” approach to them, in some parts even referring to 80s “Italo / Cosmic” and early French funk. These are some of our personal favourites on the album, especially “Eaux Troubles” is a 6 minutes dramatic string filled trip that is just the perfect ending to a beautiful album journey.

As a vinyl only bonus Max also added a very personal Intro and outro that consists of field recordings from his trips abroad and kids Eva and Bastien accompanied by Rhodes and strings recorded during the above mentioned live sessions.

We hope you enjoy this album and it will become the soundtrack to your summer on travels, the beach, at home and of course at the clubs and House parties around the World!

    A2 St James' Road
A3 Move Me Ft. Laura Steel
    B1 Peach Shuffle (Nebraska Remix)
    B2 Carn Ft. SMBD
    B3 Zongo Junction, At Night

    Release Info:
We are very excited to present you this new signing and debut EP by Dampé. A studio and live project from South East London. Since moving to the city, Dampé has been intimately involved in its club culture - from running warehouse spaces and booking venues to DJing and performing in groups across the city and Europe, under a slew of different aliases.

The music is made on a boat on the Thames and is a combination of dusty analogue gear, live instrumentation, and samples. For Dampé, influential parties were “Co-Op, FWD” and “You're A Melody” and echoes of those dances can almost be felt in the sound. Across five original tracks, the EP explores weirder and worldlier ends of house music, all with a nod to undeniably UK sounds.

“Peach Shuffle” is a made-for-the-floor, broken beat work-out that has this great warped and chopped Persian vocal sample giving the track a unique and world-wide touch, followed by “St James' Road”, a crunchy live Rhodes jam and ode to a favourite street south of the river. “Move Me” is all garage-infused vocal loops and singing bowls and acts as an experiment-come-DJ tool. “Carn” is a super-swung hip hop beat featuring “SMBD” aka “Simbad” providing additional keys. Closing out with “Zongo Junction, At Night”, a late night roller with material pieced together from saturated CR 78 samples and field recordings made when Dampé was recording sound for a film about witchcraft and the internet across rural Ghana.

To round up this exciting EP we ask a fellow SE London enthusiast “Nebraska” to make a remix of the title track “Peach Shuffle”. Cutting up the vocal of the original, adding some mean bass and pouring a smooth “dance floor” sauce over it. The delicious end result is something we are very proud off and we hope you will enjoy as much as we do!

Lorenz Rhode | Belair EP | Dirt Crew Recordings
    Cat No. : DIRT115
    Rel Date : 03.12.2018

    Track list:
    A1. Belair
    A2. Jubilee
B1. On Top (Strip Steve Remix)
B2. And I Said (Tensnake Remix)

    Release Info:

Exactly one year after Lorenz’s debut EP on Dirt Crew he is back with a super funky follow up. With the recent “Marakuja” track on our “Deep Love 2018” compilation he already set the tone to a much more fluid and organic live approach to his sound recording.

The opening title track “Belair” is a heavy “wurly” organ jam he developed mainly by playing live and afterwards finalizing it in his Cologne studio. After his recent tour and shows as part of the Detroit Swindle live outfit he really got into improvising and composing his tunes on the fly. The Funk is all over this one and it is a great uplifting “sunny” jam to play out. Following this one is the slower and deeper “Jubilee” that’s adding even more soul to the “Rhode” funk with an irresistible bass line and melody and when the clavinet break sets in it’s nothing but Good Times on the dance floor! A certain rewind for us and favorite track off this new EP.

On the flip we added two remixes from his previous high in demand tracks “On Top” and “And I Said”. Lorenz has been working a lot on various projects with his good friends Strip Steve and Tensnake and both had their go on these tracks from last year. Strip Steve took the parts of “On Top” and turned them into a deep Detroit flavored House Jam with stabby beats and beautiful strings added. Last but not least Tensnake fires up a high octane remix of “And I Said” that leans much towards old school New York house rhythms and the additional “Sax” topping gives it a groovy 90s feel to it. For sure bringing back that great happy and funky flow of the original.

We hope you dig this funk and soul laden EP by Lorenz Rhode as much as we do! Enjoy!

    Track list:
    A1. Between Us
    A2. Hamburg 3011
    B1. Pinot Noir 1985
    B2. Modern Soul Classics
    B3. Merlot 1988

    Release Info:

Felix has been working his Studio hard this past summer and caned out a whole bunch of awesomeness! We are more than pleased to welcome him back on Dirt Crew this year after his excellent new EP on “Bobby Donny” and the “Buster” jam for our “Deep Love 2018” compilation.

The A-side starts off with “Between US”, a cool, pump-y and jazzy track with a hypnotic tribal bongo rhythm that winds up in that typical Leifur swirl. Followed by the super deep “Hamburg 3011” that flicks an off-beat mash up of soul, guitar samples and funk hi-hat vs snare groove that is just irresistible dance floor goodness, we can’t wait to drop this on a massive sound system.

Over to the musical world of that B-side! What can we say, Felix changed his style quite a lot here and delivers some bang on Electro with “Pinot Noir 1985” that just bounces in yer face with a dope ass beat keeping those typical Leifur flavors alive with a warped piano loop and delayed vocal snips. Second is the almost garage-y tune “Modern Soul Classics” with massive subs underlaying the “Rhodes” and drum cut ups, moody and deep in his signature style. The closing track is a real Icelandic Bossa Nova affair! Silky ‘n smooth again he works that piano loop towards eternity, we love this piece a lot! Reminding us of past 90s electronica by the likes of “Sabres of Paradise” or “Nightmares on Wax”. The best ending to this EP we could have hoped for!

Enjoy this varied ‘n eclectic EP by our Icelandic talent Felix Leifur and make your Autumn a hot one by dropping these jams on the floor!

    7 Ouer - Lost Mindset
    8 Dan Only - Lofty
    9 Times Are Ruff - DF3
    10 25 Places - Bleak Moments

    Release Info:

This is already our seventh Deep Love compilation and we dare to say our most complete yet in sound and flow. The ten pieces on this sampler blend in perfectly with that laid back “late” summer mood. We are very pleased to welcome yet again some new acts to Dirt Crew with the likes of “Jaxx Madicine”, “Ouer”, “Times are Ruff” and “S3A”. We cross many borders not only in genres but also country wise. From the heavy Disco sampled jam by French producer “S3A” to the Jazz and Funk laden epos of the Italian 3 piece “Jaxx Madicine” over to the Dutch deep house boys “Times Are Ruff” who are well known from their, same named, label and finally to the Berlin duo “Ouer” who also run an own label and released with our good friends at “Heist Recordings”, delivering an ecstatic electronic floating tune here.

This is all completed by some excellence from long time Dirt Crew artists. “25 Places” have been with us for many years now and their two Ep’s have gotten so much love from the deeper deep house community. Here they drop an epic almost IDM techno like tune that closes this great album in the best possible way. Our Icelandic stall wart “Felix Leifur” drops a heavy hitter named “Buster”. After his recent “Bobby Donny” Ep earlier this year we are thrilled to have him back on Dirt Crew! “Harry Wolfman” and “Ponty Mython” need no introduction really, they are adding Electro/ Disco/ Electronica fuelled cuts that form a great middle part to this mix of tunes. Harry going in very smooth and relaxed, something else than his usual House workout which we really loved to present to you. “Ponty Mython” drops an irresistible “good times” indie acid track in his unique “free” style.

Last, we must of course not forget “Dan Only” and key wizzard “Lorenz Rhode”! With another beautifully smooth cut “Dan Only” follows up on his latest debut Ep with us. Again a smart cross over in Techno and House with a distinct relaxed groove and atmosphere to it. Lorenz is back “On Top” here after his super successful first offering to the Deep Love series last year and his “And I Said” EP which stormed many charts. In the middle of touring and working with Detroit Swindle on their “High Life” album we are super happy that he found the time to make another gem with that raw n funky live feel to it... We couldn’t have started this compilation off with a better joint than “Marakuja”.

Enough words for now ... just put these vinyl on your decks or stream/play it on the go and don’t forget to drop them at a sweaty club night. Deep Love is here to stay!

    A2. Subconcious
    B1. Searchlight
    B2. Come Down

    Release Info:
We present you the third release in our very successful collaboration series with “Roar Groove” and “The Revenge”. Straight after his new brilliant album “When the Thrill Comes” that was release in May this year Graeme Clark is back on Dirt Crew with four new gems.

The opening, funky and twisting, “Times Get Tough” is a deep rolling down tempo Disco/ House stomper that builds into this ecstatic groove we got to love so much from his previous outings. Pure good times and hands in the air action promised on this one! “Subconcious” is that darker and meaner side of House track with a slammin’ Chicago beat he delivers this old school jackin’ feel. Big bass lines and soulful vocal samples tied together by “on the fly” drum patterns.

The B-side of this new EP opens with an hypnotic jam that builds and builds till those sweet synths start soaring in. All carried by this ultra phat bass line, we can only imagine how this one will sound on a massive sound system! “Searchlight” is def a highlight of this release. Can we go even deeper and darker? oh yes! With “Come Down” we get a proper come down to close this EP. Deep sub basses with floating tops and again that classic Jack House beat.

Certainly a late night track made for those sweaty and long dj sets.
Summer is here and “The Revenge” has the perfect soundtrack for hot and steamy nights, inside or on the open field!

    D2 - Self-Similarity
    D3 - R.U.G. Ft. Haushausen

    Release Info:

An artist as versatile as Alex Krüger is a rare find these days, not only did he release numerous EP’s and albums as Tigerskin or Korsakow since the mid 90s, he’s also been on the forefront of the “Dub Techno” movement since 1999 with outings on classic labels such as “Raum…Musik”, “Force Tracks” and “3B/ United States of Mars”. Now ten years after his last album on “Opossum Recordings” Alex is back with this well crafted genre bending full length “Caves & Cages”. From deep techno cuts through rippling ambient excursions to funky reggae infused live jams with Haushausen this work is yet another milestone in the creative bubble Alex lives in (i.e. his studio).

A predominantly analogue producer, Alex recorded most sounds for “Caves & Cages” on his modular synths and vintage gear at Organic Domain during 2017 and early 2018. Throughout the album tension ebbs and flows effortlessly via syncopated subs, analogue improvisation, subtle chord stabs and sustained swells interspersed with textured field and home recordings. The ambient opener “Intra” sets the tone for the album. Rich with alien atmospheres, distant soundscapes, out of reach voices and licks of live instruments dug up from numerous recordings dating back as far as 30 years, even before Alex started his electronic journey. The sojourn ventures deeper from there. Subaquatic dub techno is the mood on “King’s Cave”, “Helix” and “In Air” only surfacing ever so slightly for moments of clarity where shimmering tops and glistening synth lines shed some light on the steady grooves. The tracks “Future History” and “Transition State CIV” border on deep house territory. A punchy, gruff bass line and shaken percussion on the first adds suspense and energy, while the second quivers slowly with jungle tainted toms and blips and squelches from machines.

Laid back dub reggae is the tempo for “Last First Time” as well as “Ghost Button” and “R.U.G” where Alex is joined by his Berlin studio neighbours Haushausen. Seasoned musicians in their own right they jammed with him on these two tracks, delivering deft performances on drums, bass and guitar and adding yet another, more human dimension to the unfolding release. The feeling peaks becoming almost aerial on “Nervana” and “Self-Similarity”, where quicker tempos, glitchy modular patterns dart along while seemingly eternal reverb tails and strings transcend space and time.

Dub Taylor returns with an all consuming, otherworldly listening experience. “Caves & Cages” is an inter-dimensional hour of sound from the mind of Alex Krüger.

10 He's Just This Guy, You Know?
    11 Huh, What!
    12 F6
    13 You, Me, Here, Now

The Debut Album by Detroit Swindle. It has everything you would expect from the Swindles, some slow burners with a hint of disco, some deep house, some banging club monsters and hey, even some leftfield hip hop jams.

The album opens with "B.Y.O.", a track that balances nicely between the DS shuffle and an old school New York style block party. The track is a taste of things to come for the rest of the album, hinting towards a big party vibe, but mellow enough to make it a really interesting listen.

The one thing Detroit Swindle are known for best is their knack for picking the right vocals. For Boxed Out, they came up with some perfect partnerships. They recorded "64 Ways" with none other than one of America's finest soul singers: Mayer Hawthorne. Being a fan of their sound he proposed to do a track together in return for a remix on one of his album originals to be released in 2014. "64 Ways" has a lazy shuffle, a bunch of catchy rhodes chords and few well placed layers of synths that give this track a hint of "Detroit Experiment", wrapped up in an almost poppy house jam.

One of the other vocal tracks is "Thoughts of She", that effortlessly samples the voice of UK soul singer Alice Russel from the track "Pushin' on" by "The Quantic Soul Orchestra". There's also the gorgeous track "Center of Gravity" that has Berlin based, Ghanese-Canadian soul singer Sandra Amarie on vocals. It's particularly this track that reflects the true spirit of Detroit Swindle's music, a mixture of soul and UK garage meets Detroit house slowed down to a sexy groove with some of their trademark pads and stabs.

They pushed themselves to explore different tempos as well, which not only resulted on some slow house burners, but also in 2 hip hop tracks. "For the Love of..." is a homage to the old school sounds of "J. Dilla", "A tribe called Quest" and "The Pharcyde", combining off-beat shuffles, a gritty bass line and a warm cut-up soul sample. "You, Me, Here, Now" is almost a love song, disguised in a s(w)ing-a-long down tempo type of track. It's one of those "one more tune" kinda tunes.

So there's hip hop, there's soulful vocals, but It just wouldn't be a Detroit Swindle album without a few bangers on it. "Huh, What!", "Shotgun", "The Fat Rat" and "He's Just This Guy, You Know?" are all relentless dance floor monsters, pushing the tempo to match old school Chicago and New York house cuts from the late 80's and early 90's.

With these tracks "Boxed Out" has a great combination of gritty percussions, hot vocals and catchy chords and it is exactly this recipe that has become the much-loved trademark of Detroit Swindle's house universe. The album has a little bit of everything in exactly the right dose, making it both a good listen, and an extremely infectious club album.
