For the longest time I wanted to share the story on how I began filming dance and this video is a very condensed version of that. I wanted to keep it simple. I also wanted it to be an introduction to dance topics.
But more importantly, as mentioned in the video, I wanted to share something that has been on my mind for a long time. Something throughout the years that has stuck with me through many conversations with dancers. Something that I have seen many people struggle with (including myself) and that is to begin.
It truly pains me to see so many talented people who don’t know how or where to start. Some are just unmotivated, some feel stuck, want everything perfect before they start, or they simply don’t believe they can make it in the industry. Some are afraid of (insert whatever fear stops you).
The truth is, I was terrified making this video. I’m usually behind the camera so being in front of it is new to me. I picked it apart. I fumbled/mumbled words, I didn’t 100% get the message across as clear as I wanted to. My mind started racing with questions. Will the audience like me? Will they like the video? Will they get the message? On and on and on. But I did it anyway. Then I shifted my mindset and thought....what if they do like the video? What if this is the one thing someone needed to hear at this point in time? What if I inspire just one person to follow their dreams? Those questions are what drives me. The bottom line is this; I can’t please everyone nor do I want to. Not everyone will like me or my content, but that’s ok.
The same message applies to you. Just start doing that thing you love and forget what people think. Just begin.. You never know who you can inspire through your talents or where it will take you in life. There is enough room for everyone. You just have to be bold and follow your dreams! Do you want to dance? Film dance? Start a YouTube channel? Whatever it is just go for it!
If you read this far, thank you. I got a little vulnerable and preachy, but it’s all good! Thank you to everyone who has supported the channel over the years, you are amazing (this is starting to sound like an award speech) lol.
Lastly, leave a comment and let me know some dance topics you all are interested in discussing. Also comment what has stopped you from beginning. Maybe others or myself can offer some suggestions. It's all about community!
